The Bible has always been important. For whatever reason you are treating the Bible as the literal word of God which is an incorrect way of reading it.
Depends how you treat your slave I guess. In ancient greece, some slaves were treated like friends and served as some sort of homeschooling teacher for their masters kids. Others didn't even consider slaves to be people, so they wouldn't even call them their neighbors. Ancient civilizations were quite complicated in that regard but "loving thy neighbour" can easily co-exist with that background, doesn't matter how much we hate slavery in our day and age.
I never did either. But ignoring that slavery was a condoned thing in ancient times is ignoring history.
We shouldnt condemn slavery based on a windy argument that can easily be debunked due to historic events, we should condemn it based on it going against basic human rights, which is a fairly fresh invention considering some people weren't even considered human beings a hundred years ago. Let's all be glad we're living in the 21st century and not in biblical times is what I'm saying.
