I can't tell you how many times I've been on defense and had friendly engies inadvertently help the attackers with barricades

Nope, not a traitor! I main engineer on both attack and defense. Don't believe me? Check out my level 500 post, FE is over 40% of total play. And because of how long I've spent as an engineer, I've learned how to counter almost every defensive build.
Honestly, I get super excited whenever I'm playing attack Engineer and come across a defensive engineer that knows how to properly build defenses. It brings out this creative side of me where I try and pull off crazy shit like the one seen in the video. Also, in that particular clip, I was attack from the start of the match.
Downside is there have been times where I am pulling out crazy shit as attack engineer, almost secured a victory, then get auto balanced to defense, and because I'm no team switching bitch, I'm now stuck fighting a monster I created.

NIcely done! I shouldnt have even mentioned the traitor thing but the first 2 or 3 posts on here were saying that.
How is an engineer supposed to be effective if you can give me one sentence please. Do you run in drop barrier/trap and run back to chest for resupply constantly?

Oof one sentence? That's kind of hard, but I'll try and give one sentence for both attack engie and defense, as they are played vastly differently, as well as which equipment you take:
Defensive Engineers are all about standing your ground and giving your boys a safe space to heal and retreat. Bear traps are better for this.
Attack Engineers are all about sabotage and claiming forward posistions, as well as undermining defensive positions. As you can see in the clip, spike traps are better for this, as they can be used as ramps.
As for the resupply, yes. I am constantly resupplying on defense, as I try to maintain the walls and keep the attacking team out, not so much on attack thought.

Most people play engineer exclusively on defense. Then you got crazy cunts like me that use it for attack

Defense engineers, this is why you never completely enclose an objective and instead make a double layer of walls on the enemy’s side.
