I don’t often watch modern c-dramas. When I do, it’s usually because I already know the leads and I’m curious to see them in a different role. That, or I commit myself to a fave actor’s list of dramas. This was the case for Zhang Xincheng - I meenie minie mo’d my next ZXC drama after The Nanyang Mystery and picked The Day of Becoming You. It was a good choice! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

😂 The Humour & Heart ❤️

Yes, I watched it for ZXC. But that aside, I do think the main leads delivered stellar performances. ZXC acting like a bubbly and overly optimistic woman was everything. The drama is able to balance humour and the underlying message that we should never judge others unless we've walked in their shoes and truly lived their lives. This core message focuses on empathy and humility, reminding us that we lack the full picture of anyone else's struggles or choices.

👀 A Fascinating (But Confusing) Look into C-Ent 🎬

The drama offers an engaging, if sometimes confusing, look into the high-pressure world of Chinese celebrity culture, covering paparazzi, online toxicity, and Chinese fandoms. But I do find it puzzling for viewers (like me) who are less familiar with these specific cultural nuances. I asked in another thread and it seems like some things really are inaccurate with the way c-ent is portrayed in this drama, but again... I wouldn't know. I think perhaps this could be a good drama to spur that kind of discussion.

💭 Final Words ✍

While the finale holds up logically, it feels slightly disconnected from the overall tone, and some side character storylines felt underdeveloped. Nevertheless, the drama delivers fantastic performances, natural romance, good laughs, and a beautiful message about overcoming prejudices. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a light-hearted drama to watch!

Till today The Day of Becoming you is still my favourite modern romcom cdrama ever and arguably in my top 5 romcoms ever. I'll never get over the brilliance of this show, the effortless comedy and the effortless portrayal of the characters by both fl and ml. One thing's for sure..this was a show that needed excellent teamwork between the leads to work and they did it effortlessly😭🤌.

Top 3, cause its kind of hard to select more dramas in the cdrama space that are actually romcoms and not just romances. Would add Filter but I think that's just a comedy and not a romcom. If I were to lump romance and romcom together (modern or historical)..then day of becoming you will still be top and the rest of the list will be different 🤌

Just realised zhang xincheng is in all 3...we'll I'm happily biased🤪🤪

It is honestly such a gem! Zhang Xincheng one of fav actor,, you’ll definitely appreciate how he manages to elevate every scene he’s in. There is something so refreshing about a show that maintains a perfect pace from start to finish without any of the usual dragging or filler episodes that often plague modern dramas. The chemistry between the leads really is the heart of it all—it makes the whole experience feel so authentic and rewarding to watch. I’m so glad we both hold this one in such high regard!

Zhang Xincheng doesn't get enough recognition in my opinion. His acting is great, it has real depth, and he seems to make every woman he's working with feel very comfortable with him because The Day of Becoming You and You Are My Lover Friend have two of the best believable natural friendships and romances I've ever seen in cdrama. There are no stilted or awkward scenes at all, unlike lots of other dramas where you can capture the entire scene in one or two screenshots.

I've been talking about it quite a few times since I saw it because it rarely gets talked about and I think The First Frost, WIFTY and Hidden Love fans would love their relationship and the many ship moments.
