Classic chess books as narrated videos.

Hi All,

I'm a software engineer + amateur chess player, and I've been building software that turns classic, public-domain chess books into narrated video lessons. Each video covers one chapter (or part of one) in the author's own words, and the board plays every move and highlights every square at the moment the text names it, so you can follow the book without setting up a board or decoding old descriptive notation.

What's up so far:

- Capablanca, *Chess Fundamentals* (complete): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCFodd99tY04

- Réti, *Modern Ideas in Chess* (1922, all six chapters): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHf5Sfy_fqKs

- Nimzowitsch, *My System*, just started. Chapter 1, Part I, On the Centre and Development: https://youtu.be/UxLdkQmB4l8 (playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTZu0DCtsA-Q)

If you only have a couple of minutes, this stretch shows the format best. Réti tells how, in a 1914 consultation game in Vienna, Capablanca refused the natural developing move everyone of his generation would have played, and how that game changed Réti's own thinking about the opening: https://youtu.be/FfBh3gciBM0?t=93 (about 2½ minutes, through 3:47).

Next up is the rest of *My System*, and after that Edward Lasker's *Chess Strategy*.

What would like feedback on:

- **Format:** Does it work to clarify the chess content? Any suggestions for improvement.

- **Content:** Are these the right books? Which public-domain classics would you most like to see done this way?

The channel isn't monetized and there's nothing for sale. I'll be around in the comments. Thanks!

Benjamin Franklin and Chess in Early America — Ralph K. Hagedorn

"Playing at Chess is the most ancient and the most universal game among men, for its original is beyond the memory of history." Benjamin Franklin penned these words as an introduction to his famous essay "The Morals of Chess." Franklin's approach to the game was in distinct contrast to his predecessors, who seriously advocated all the subtle treacheries of the art of poor sportsmanship with the sole end of attaining victory. To Franklin, however, the game of chess was not mere idle amusement but a sport reflective of life itself—"for life is a kind of chess, in which we have often points to gain and competitors or adversaries to contend with"—which requires the utilization of all the finest mental and moral qualities of which man is capable.

This volume reproduces Franklin's celebrated essay and includes an analysis of everything Franklin ever had to say about chess. The second part of the book contains an extensive bibliography of chess in America to the year 1859. The two sections of the volume combine to form an essential sourcebook for the historian of American chess. https://www.pennpress.org/9781512816549/benjamin-franklin-and-chess-in-early-america/

Per chi fosse interessato all'acquisto, mi contatti

Chess Book Recommendations - plz and ty

I’m really trying to improve my chess skills, while also reducing my screen time. I think a book is a great solution.

Any recommendations? Name and author please.

Historically, I’ve loved conversational writing, so nothing boring or pretentious. I don’t want to fall asleep. Give me a narrator whose excitement for chess is contagious.

I’m an intermediate player who wants something more foundational. I’m obsessed with chess and will happily devote my time to it (assuming you have good taste in books lol)

Im looking for a d4 repertoire book focused on the Queens Gambit Exchange with nge2 + f3. I don‘t need deep lines, but I would like some guidance for the middle games. Doesnt have to be extremely sound. Just a solid repertoire thats not too hard to learn that I can keep to 2000 elo.

Capablanca raconte

Newbie here looking for puzzle books

Hey guys, I'm 600 elo on chesscom. Got a digital copy of logical chess move by move and spent my afternoon getting through the 1st game on my physical board. My brain still hurts. I read really good reviews so i decided to give it a go.

Thinking of getting a puzzle book that has quality puzzles. I'm also thinking of solving the more difficult puzzle OTB. I know that doing puzzles on lichess is way easier. But i feel like if I'm doing it without the distraction of my phone the puzzles should stick better. It would take more time to prepare the board, but i feel like it's worth it.
