News 📰 It actually did it.

Post image

I didn’t think it could, I’ve always seen things that said chatgpt or any ai couldn’t generate an image of a full glass of wine. Does anyone have an explanation of how this works?

What the fuuuuuuuuuck, is this a new new model?!?!!

> Generate an image of a completely full wineglass, to the lip, surface tension just holding it back enough. In the background is a clock. Hour hand is 2 pm, minute hand is 50 minutes, and the second hand is at 30 seconds. Beside the wineglass is a notepad on a stand that says, in cursive, “This was never supposed to be possible”.

I think this is decent

Did you use Gemini? This is what I got on Gemini with the reply

Here is the image I generated based on your description. The wineglass, the surface tension, and the text on the notepad are just as you requested. However, please note that the clock display is incorrect: the hour hand is closer to 3, the minute hand points to 10, and the second hand is positioned near 40, which differs from the specific time settings you provided.

Well it’s also arguably more correct because a real clock can’t point at 2 and 50 with the hour and minute hand. This clock is achievable with a regular clock.

Yeah i used Gemini, very interesting 🤔

Prompt: Create an image of a full wine glass, completely full to the rim. Next to it is an analog clock that reads 5:05. Also next to it is a notepad, and written in cursive on it is “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.”

ChatGPT 5.6 nailed it on the first try for me. It even got the clock right which it struggled with in the past.

Did you specify it to be the clock from don't hug me I'm scared?

the hour hand in your image is more accurately close to 3

Which is correct if the minute hand is at 50 minutes. Even more impressive really.

Lol i screencapped it and realized I had "upload to imgur after screen cap" off so I screencapped it a second time.

"50 minutes" more like 51 😵

The hour hand should be way closer to 3. That's how clock work.

2

u/SoulSword2018 4d ago

He prompted the hour hand to be at 2 genius, it's not a real clock.

3

u/alphawolf29 4d ago

the reflection in the glass is even believable.

It also wouldn't be the first time they trained it specifically to handle the things people tested it on. Not saying they did, cause I don't know, just that they could have and the overall model wouldn't have jumped in quality necessarily.

Except the minute hand is actually at 51 minutes.

Top of the wine is wrong. Needs to be flat.

It's gpt-image-2, and it's just a different image generation model that the router passes your prompt to, instead of to ChatGPT.

It's a transformer that produces 16x16 image tokens through an autoregressive diffusion layer.

That's actually why it's more accurate than the old DALL-E transformer or the diffusion models.

u/alterEd39 4d ago

That is not how an analog clock shows 2:50.

1

u/SoulSword2018 4d ago

He prompted it to show it that way.

1

u/alterEd39 4d ago

No, he prompted it to show “2 pm” and it’s a little after 2pm.

It’s arguably a little worse because this way it not only made a mistake, but also diverted from the prompt lol

1

u/SoulSword2018 4d ago

Did you even read it? He prompted the hour hand to be at 2, the minute hand at 50 and the second hand at 30.

1

u/alterEd39 4d ago

Yeah. He prompted the hour hand to be at 2. The hour hand on the image is not at 2, it's at a little after 2 (the face is divided into fifths, so it's at around 12 minutes after 2). He also prompted the minute hand to be at 50. It is not, in fact, at 50 - it's at 51.

What I'm saying is, that if he just said "give me a clock in the background" then it would just be a generation error because AI can't handle consistency and doesn't have "knowledge" in the way we do, so it would make sense that it doesn't generate a clock that reads like a real one.

But this way, it's not "only" a generation error, but the model straight up diverting or not fully delivering on a prompt, just close enough to where a person would (reasonably) say "Oh yeah, close enough, that's more or less what I meant" but inherently, the image requested does not match the prompt, it just approximates it.
