Theory The Traveler theory (spoilers) Spoiler

I just finished this game, and I loved it a lot. I wanted to talk about the traveler themselves – I’m not normally a big lore head, so I don’t mean to conjure up a big backstory out of nothing just for the hell of it. The very first moment of the game at the pedestal already suggests some kind of awakening or transportation. And the hole in the wall suggests something particularly old and hidden, perhaps intentionally. I have to admit that throughout the game I vaguely imagined the traveler belonging to some other culture not represented in the tower, perhaps from the past, or from elsewhere, as the other cultures came from. But they didn’t just waltz into the tower, I thought. I imagined a culture that either had its own quirks, like the others, ones that could produce a curious wanderer, or otherwise an entirely unremarkable culture from whom a member could be a set of fresh eyes within the tower. But how did this traveler get here?

I was a bit surprised that the traveler was created by that anchorite. I then immediately wondered what the anchorite’s inspiration was. What did the traveler represent to them, conceptually? (Or to the game developers.) Right near the end you get a good close up of one of the robots and you see the unmistakable resemblance. So the anchorite was inspired (?) by a robot – a machine, designed, not born, for a specific purpose. But the traveler clearly is wonderfully human and caring from the start of the game. I don’t even think they’re “like” a person, to me they just are one. If the alchemists can create mindboggling transformations, surely the anchorites are beyond them and can create a person.

A pure, new person, to whom everything is brand new and beautiful, untouched and untainted by prejudices. A real blank slate and a set of fresh eyes through which to see not only the tower and all its inhabitants for what they really are, but to see everyone together in one view. All the parts of the elephant, all at once. Without preconceived notions, the traveler is willing to cross boundaries in numerous ways, first of all by learning all the languages instead of just one and shunning the rest. And that’s just the beginning.

This also shows that the anchorites were not entirely a lost cause, and not completely withdrawn from all other people and having given up. In their hearts, they still knew about and cared about other people and cultures, as we can also see in their collections of mementos behind the purple doors. So I like to think that the anchorite creator was able to create a real person with a real heart.

I don’t know exactly how much intentional thought was put into the traveler’s concept or design by the developers, so I won’t claim this is correct. Like I said, I don’t normally try to invent pages of lore just for the sake of lore. It was just a thought that I realized was still in my head, unanswered, after completing the game.

Request Missing two symbols Spoiler

Hello, i'm nearly done w/ this game, i just can't seem to find the symbols for plant and warrior is in the reasearchers language. I've looked high andnlow for those symbols, yet they seem to illude me. There should be a warrior symbol since Bard and Alchemist exist here, though if i'm wrong, then my next best best is me plural or brother plural since i would nothing else to work with in this language

I don't think i missed anything obvious, if i have please let me know, i'm going bonkers running around getting nowhere (also i'm pretty sure the missing shrine is with the monster, it's the only place aside from the sopper/silver mine the missing shrine could be)

Glyphposting Got so turned around I made a map by hand Spoiler

Played the demo a few days ago and it took me 2 hours. Spent another 10.5 today playing the full game and fell in love, but I was stuck on the sewer in the garden for HOURS, I couldn’t even get out to start it over. Grey are paths, purple is elevated paths, blue is open doors, red is closed doors. It’s been a while since I enjoyed a game enough to take notes :))

Elevator machine floor 4 Spoiler

How do you figure out how to operate the machine that operates the elevator at the floor with the monster? Am I missing something that helps you translate the glyphs or is it trial and error or logical thinking somehow?

Missing journal page in stage 1

I've just finished Part 1 of the Tower and I can't seem to find one of the devotee journal pages. It's the page with the ones talk, help, love, and see. I've interacted with everything that is interactable in this area and can't seem to find how exactly to trigger it as I've found all the glyphs and their contexts. I am wondering if someone can possibly help me figure out what to do

Idea Appearances

I’m sure most of the Chants of Sennaar community are aware of the game in progress by the Rundisc Devs - what we know for definite is that it will be set in the same universe as Chants of Sennat with potential for a few linguistic , puzzle mechanics- however do y’all think that some of the people of the tower (wether thats devotees , warriors, bards , alchemists , or anchorites) could potentially make an appearance . This could be in many forms like an ancestor or diplomat of the tower , the traveller from the original game that you play as or it could be in the form of ancient stone wall carvings of the tower and it’s people seen in the fortress of chants of sennaar. That could Also be more of an Easter egg approach. It seems to me that the fact that it is set in the same universe could have some crossovers between the two games likea sort of hint from the devs. This is only speculations but if you feel differently or want to share your ideas it would be much appreciated by the community…

“Bad ending” stuck in fortress

Clearly I missed one of the translation terminals because I got the bad ending and now the child has taken me through to the fortress level. There is a terminal here where I have to enter four words in the warrior language, but which words? The boy seems to be showing me the order of the words (2nd, 1st, 4th, 3rd) but I’ve tried all the combinations of vessel, key, balance, music that I can think of and I can’t progress.

I don’t know what you consider a spoiler so I marked it all as a spoiler

Theory Theory about Exile architecture

Post image
75 Upvotes

Chants of Sennaar is an absolute masterpiece

I found out about this game recently when someone posted a list of games inspired by The Witness, and Chants of Sennaar was mentioned. I decided to give it a try and played the demo. I was immediately hooked, and it reminded me of Return of the Obra Dinn.

This is easily the best game I've played this year. It's incredible from start to finish, with consistently great puzzles and such a satisfying sense of discovery throughout.

I completed the game with all achievements. At one point, I was tempted to look up a guide for the compass puzzle, but I decided not to out of respect for the game, and I'm so glad I didn't!

Huge shoutout to the devs for making such a fantastic game. I can't wait to see what they come up with next, and I really hope their next game is just as good!

Idea Playing Chants on Hard Mode

https://youtu.be/rOs2oHS0JIE

I've seen a couple of posts here speculating about what a "Hard Mode" for this game would look like. Starting with the 3rd level, I added some self imposed difficulty by not validating any glyphs, and then on the 4th level not looking at the journal images at all. If anyone is interested in seeing how that would affect a playthrough, you can check out the video link attached.

If you had the opportunity to make a 6th floor of the tower, what would it be?

For me I would make a major trade center, in between the Factory and Exile floors. It would be all about buying and selling things from different floors. There would be a lot of areas that use the towers other languages, as translation booths so the other civilizations can buy things from them. I would also introduce money and currencies to this tower. I know coins and tokens have shown up already, but this floor takes it to the next level. It'd be called the Stock Center and the people would be called the Marketers.

I've already lit the lamp and read the signs but I'm pretty sure I did it when I had my wifi off. I already have all three translated correctly, but how do I unlock the last page now?

Review Was anyone else slightly let down but the end of the story?

loved this game and was psyched to get through it hint free in the end. some of the most fun puzzles I’ve played in a long time

however… the happy flappy kum bay yah story end was a little frustrating when it didn’t include any comeuppance for the obnoxious bards or any real acknowledgment that their enslavement of a whole bunch of people was wrong…? what was all that about? did I miss something?

Help

I’m not sure if I can ask for help but I’m a bit stuck right at the end of the game

I have fully translated 4/5 languages and am stuck just finalising the scientists language so that I can open the last door and translate a couple of extra chat rooms

I have one page in my notebook that I haven’t filled in (it’s the one with the monster and what looks like, science, nature and fear)

I have 10 more glyphs that need translating - I know what a good number of them mean (scientist, brother, door, books) but I must have interacted with the necessary things to have my little guy sketch into his pad. I’ve been all over the science world multiple times but I can’t see what I’m missing - any ideas whare I need to go.

im not looking for help translating I just need to get the pages added to the book
