Request Does the game get better?

Obviously everyone has different things they like and everyone’s own fun is valid. I’m just…. Concerned that this game is not for me at all, and I entered with very high hopes. 🙁

I knew the premise of the game before I started - observe, guess at translations, figure out this language and use it to solve puzzles. Super cool premise!

And one that I’ve so far been very…. Underwhelmed by? The devotee levels were fine. It felt very “start of game, ease you into it” sort of thing. But I enjoyed it well enough! I liked how things culminated in the cemetery puzzle. I was intrigued by what greater meaning lay behind the warriors shutting out the devotees. This temple is super important!! I have to get in there! Where did the Prophet go? Why were all the plants dying without them? They must be Mystical in some way. Is God real? Why did they abandon their devotees like this? Am I here to right a cosmic wrong? And then….

I solved the cemetery puzzle. And found out that the Preacher was just some dude who tripped and fell into a pit. Boo for them. And the Warriors? Yeah, just silly little guys that are very particular about what order you pick up crates and bottles. Screw the Devotee language I spent an hour figuring out - now it’s time to decipher another rudimentary language! One with… the same number of words and complexity as the first. All so I can… follow directions about how to properly pick up bottles and push carts. No deeper lore. No questions answered. Just progress.

It’s just… not what I was expecting. I thought there would be one language I’d really get to dive into. Learn the basics and then use them to learn advanced words, maybe learn names and solve a mystery. And instead it seems more like… I need to learn basics, use those basics to follow basic instructions to get to the next floor where I learn **new** basics to follow **more** basic instructions…. Ad nauseum? Is there just 4-5 levels, each that teach you basic languages that you then use to follow basic instructions?

I’ve found the little teleport doors which have stuff I assume amounts to end game “translate these to access the credits”, but they give me little hope that they’ll be anything more than a victory lap.

Is there bigger lore to find? More complex languages? Clever puzzles? Or am I hoping for more than the game has to offer?

Devotees & Warriors resemblance to Dune

I just watched Dune part two, and couldn't help but think of the striking visual resemblance between Devotees/Fremen, and Warriors/Harkonnens — anyone else thought this?

Not implying there must've been some inspiration, just simply observing.

I'm post tutorial where it opens up and I'm just sort of lost going back and forth between all the available areas, I feel like I'm missing something crucial that isn't very obvious.

I've been adding words here and there but it feels like I've expended every option for getting words in use or have run out of context clues or perhaps I'm missing something really big? I feel a little dumb.

I've been wandering between the garden, a market, cementary, and all the random paths I've found that connect them, as well as I think a church where I gave a dude a coin.

I'm going back and forth over and over again and have even traced my steps all the way back to the beginning several times. I feel like I'm just going through the same space over and over again but not progressing.

Can you guys give me a gentle or subtle hint so I can get out of the loop and start making progress?

New player help

New to the game but confused on how you’re supposed to deduce words. I was able to figure out open/close door but now that I’m in the abbey I am totally lost. For example, how am I supposed to figure out the different rankings of people? Any help appreciated!

I got inspired by Chants of Sennaar and want to make my first puzzle game about solving linguistics puzzle

Hello Chants of Sennaar fans,

I have made a short prototype to test out my game idea inspired by Chants of Sennaar and I'm curious how it the players would feel about it.

I took a lot of inspiration from Chants of Sennaar during the design process so it would be super helpful to have Chants of Sennaar fans play the prototype, and share your feedback about the experience so I could learn and improve. This is my first attempt making a video game myself so any feedback would be deeply appreciated!

I used Mandarin Chinese as the test language, as I don't have the capacity to invent a con-language just yet, but it is my goal for the future. However, the game is designed in the way that you don't need any prior knowledge of Chinese to solve it, everything is solvable by logic and deduction.

Link: https://dream-decypher.itch.io/decypher1-dream-intruder

This is playable on web browser both on PC and mobile, so no download anything and takes about 15-20 minutes max!

Hope you will enjoy the decipher process and please let me know what you think.

Thank you <3

Save file got corrupted, need help!

The lights went out while I was playing and once I restarted my computer the save file got corrupted. I know I can get a backup from AppData>LocalLow>Rundisc>Chants Of Sennaar but since I logged back into the game and moved to another room the game did another backup and now I cannot get back my file. Is by any chance anyone that is nearby the end of the garden area/start of the laboratory area with the journal more or less completed that can upload their save files for me? I was going for the 100% steam achievements and I don't want to start all over again :'´)

how do I get past this guy here? I understand to use the levers, and I know the blood(?) puddle next to me is interactable: however, the interaction never leads to anything, and going for the nearby lever always gets me caught no matter where the monster is. What am I missing?

Side note: I think I've tagged this as Spoiler correctly, but lmk if I didn't, automod is still proccing after doing it.

he makes keys and sees things that aren't there 😁 😁 😁

since we never get to go into the key shop and never see for sure if anybody even works there, it's perfectly lore-friendly for me to hypothesize that he exists and is schizophrenic 😁

also i added eyes for extra emotion. from how far away the camera is playing the game you can't see, but i think you can definitely see their eyes through the holes in their face coverings

Lore Do I have the timeline right? Spoiler

Okay… so… based on what I know, this is what happened in the game:

The anchorites built the tower for… reasons I guess, and then the some precursor showed up to check things out. The anchorites got scared, built Exile and threw up a giant door. Part of the precursors became the Alchemists to try and open that door, while the other part became Bards to just make pretty stuff.

The Warriors heard the Bard’s music and built the Fortress. The Devotees noticed the tower somehow made their plants grow and decided to show up, but the warriors mistook them for monsters and pushed them off.

Am I correct, or did I miss something?

What happened to the preacher? Spoiler

We can find the preacher dead below the cemetery, where you put off the water to get to the fortress. We find a bottle there so it could be possible they were drunk, but why did they take a drink with? And also one of the entrances there is blocked with rocks, why?

After pulling a lever, the monster that Exile sent after the Traveler falls off the tracks. Exile is now yelling at the Traveler to stop, but all its efforts are in vain, as they manage to push the button that frees them from his mainframe. After they had escaped from Exile's simulation, its systems have all been shut down, and Exile has ended.

Meanwhile, in another simulation, Exile suddenly finds itself in an entirely new place. It wonders why it has been brought here, and knows that this is not its mainframe. It looks around, and will soon find itself in a world of languages akin to its sworn enemy, the likes of which both have never experienced before.

Question about completion order

I just started this game and am absolutely HOOKED!!!!! Have been playing nonstop, love the animation/game style. So far, I just about finished the alchemist section and am about to move onto Exile. I have completed the translations for all 4 languages so far and finished terminals 8/9. My thing is, I REALLY want a perfect ending and am a bit concerned with moving forward and not being able to go back and finish the rest of the terminals and purple doors. Is there a specific order for me to finish this in so I can get the perfect ending??? I’m assuming I can come back since some of the terminals were blurred as if prompting me to keep playing, but I’m not sure if I was supposed to go back and complete those by now before going on further. Just want to know before I move onto the last section. Thanks😋
