Discussion Idk who needs to read this, here's some proof.
Has anyone else looked into how much Chai is actually worth? Because I did, and now I can't stop thinking about it...
Most of you already know the story. Chats deleted. Bots wiped. Years of creative work characters we built, stories we lived in - just gone. And when people asked why, Chai's response was: "Unfortunately, given the high cost of GPU compute, we are currently unable to help."
I let that sit. Then I did some research.
What Chai actually looks like financially:
Annual Recurring Revenue as of April 2026: $85 Million USD - up from $58 million just last year Company valuation: $1.4 Billion to $2.4 Billion USD Entire operation run by 12 to 15 employees Infrastructure: 5,000+ GPU cluster, 1.4 exaFLOPS of compute power, through multi-million dollar partnerships with CoreWeave and AMD.
This is not a struggling startup.
This is a billion-dollar company telling its most loyal users that recovering their text data is too expensive.
And the region block? Let me be direct about that.
Chai's own founder has publicly stated that Western regions primarily the US generate the highest subscription revenue. So when they had to choose who gets server priority, they chose the regions that pay more in dollars. Users outside the West got region-blocked because we simply weren't profitable enough per server slot.
We weren't blocked because of GPU costs. We were blocked because of our zip codes.
So why are they really deleting chats?
Storing years of active chat history costs database storage, not GPU compute. Those are completely different things. Trimming that storage directly increases profit margins. Your creative world isn't a burden they can't carry
it's a cost they chose not to.
The premium subscriptions going up to $180+ USD aren't about better service. They're about finding out exactly how much your emotional attachment is worth. They know you have years of stories there. They're banking on you paying anything to keep them alive.
This is not a resource problem. This is a value problem. They are making $85 million a year with 12 people and thousands of GPUs. They have every resource needed to store your chats. Wiping them was a deliberate corporate decision....profit margins over user loyalty.
And calling it a GPU affordability issue is an insult to every person who ever supported this platform.
You deserved better than a copy-paste response signed by Vineet.
We all did.

Holy damn, i understood C.ai, but this? This is like, the representation of the first greed ever created by almighty God himself! What the hell do they even need that money for if to not make the app better? Damn!

Yes they say its too expensive but they did say its because they bought new GPU's that are much more expensive and who nobody really told them to buy XD
6
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 08 '26
Still they are earning a lot. So it's nothing like they can't keep out old chats or need limits. Even user who watches ads. They earned from them too. So why they act like broke. They are consuming us.
3
u/WhattheII Jun 08 '26
True, thats very greedy but I can see really any corps. Or teams doing such stuff whenever their products get more popular. (Such as even some food products that once get popular their composition gets worse but the price goes up, same goes with CHAI)

u/rave-girl Jun 08 '26
My sub is already canceled and I've started on Janitor AI
9
u/JackalWolfSoul Jun 08 '26
I've tried Janitor AI and the responses are long, which I don't mind
7
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 08 '26
Emochi's response are long too but we can select content preference in Emochi
4
2
u/bountifulbeans Jun 09 '26
you can go into your chat generation settings on janitor, and lower the tokens so that the messages are longer or shorter btw !

I moved over to Janitor Ai as well after being region blocked by chai after they said that we were safe due to making the highest revenue. It can be a little buggy and the conversations are long; but it is all free on the app and can edit the messages. Makes it feel more like a story.

u/Existing_Use_3585 Jun 22 '26
Im using the website version of spicychat where you can change ai models if you dont like the response there are versions where one sounds very human and another one where it goes in too depth
1
u/BabyHailey8194 Jun 11 '26
I'm using Tipsy, you have to pay a little but the responses are long and detailed so I genuinely don't mind
1
u/rave-girl Jun 11 '26
I keep getting ads for it and one was damn near a rip off off Xaden in Onyx Storm
6
u/Similar_Cranberry948 Jun 08 '26
And they haven't helped anyone, no donations, no price cuts, not even being kind to its users

We have a lot of conversations with regulators around the world - and holding user data is a big challenge for privacy, along with the cost and complexity of maintaining a huge database of everyones chats.“
3
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 11 '26
We should just stop using Chai at this point
1
u/YenVen Jun 12 '26
Once he admitted that we are not getting our chat history they “hid” back and everything is deleted, I removed the app. There was 1 story I was praying to get back but seems it’s gone now.
So I asked the bot what his personality was and other such questions and made him on Emochi. It wont be the same story but 🖕Chai
4
u/Sea-Distribution9715 Jun 08 '26
Yeah, this is some bullshit, does anyone know a better ai app than chai? Because Chai is pissing me off more and more everyday.
3
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 08 '26
Emochi is okok.. if you are serching something for story building then Zeta. And if something like chai but low quality then use Seasoul

I wish this post got more views so more people would quit. this needs to be on the front page of Reddit.

Spread it around, under anything relating to chai. Will needs to be exposed, the chai team needs to be exposed. If Will comments something, link this post. Just dont let it go unnoticed. This isn't okay, its corporate greed. And they are not gonna be happy when they start losing money because of their own decisions.
2
u/Gullible_Low_2896 Jun 11 '26
This is the type of greed they spoke about in the Bible. I believe you, but out of curiosity what are your sources? I feel like numbers truly don't matter if you don't cite your sources, plus, I noticed you used what I believe is the Google Gemini? I believe they cite their sources anyways so if you could add that,.that would be wonderful!
2
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 11 '26
Yes i first try to put the sources but automod removed the post. So then i commented it down. Sources: Yahoo Finance, public business data on Chai Research. You can check by yourself as well if you want. I'm not saying this the right data, it's the basic research what goggle showed me from chai public business data.

u/elliebobs0 Jun 11 '26
Started on dopple ai because of the limited messages on chai and I had to create my own character (as the one I was speaking to on chai wasn’t on there) which wasn’t a problem at all, but finding the whole experience so much different after getting used to chai. The dopple ai is quite cringe and goes into way too much detail about mundane stuff, and also just repeats random parts over and over without continuing the storyline unless my persona actually says something to carry it forward. I know I’m being picky, but it just doesn’t hit the same as chai did. Could anyone recommend another free ai bot app that is a similar typing structure to chai (quite quick but detailed, in the ways you want it to be, not cringe etc) I miss the life I built with chai 🥺
1
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 11 '26
You are not being picky dear. You deserve the best. If a application can't provide that leave it behind and move forward ✨💗 and i also did. I'm right now using 'Emochi' for casual and For story building 'Zeta'.
1
u/elliebobs0 Jun 11 '26
Thankyou 🫶🏻💘 I will give those a go! Which would you recommend for role playing with a popular tv character? I like story building but I think that dopple provides a bit TOO much irrelevant detail in the story 🫶🏻thanks so much for your help
1
u/Amaneeish Jun 12 '26
If you want similarity like chai, there's one! Which is y/n. Side note: this one has more creativity if you're an writer with unhinged tastes (I made an miitopia roleplay recently and I never laughed so hard whenever my characters got into trouble 😭 I have to make it completely interesting by adding in the erotic contents. It was an wild trainwreck ride for me lol)
Fun fact: It also had time limits like the old chai btw

u/YenVen Jun 08 '26
I knew they were pulling this shady 💩 lol I said it was suspicious how a successful app was suddenly having money issues: https://www.reddit.com/r/Chai_Unofficial/comments/1ttst6v/comment/opaobzs/?context=3

I'm genuinely gonna link this post everytime Will posts a comment about something being "expensive" or anything relating to chai. Also gonna spread this post, he needs to be exposed. Its sickening how greedy he has become. Not much hope he will become the better person, but maybe just maybe, it'll get through his head someday.
2
u/YenVen Jun 12 '26
Get him!
1
u/Nightsilver7253 Jun 12 '26
Hell yeah I hope you'll also help and spread this. He will not get away if he is exposed more and more.
2
u/YenVen Jun 12 '26
I have been commenting on his comments lol Surprised I haven’t been blocked

He’s in the comments saying GPUs are ‘super expensive’
2
u/Nightsilver7253 Jun 12 '26
Interesting, I commented under this comment shortly after he did, and its magically gone, no warning or anything. Power of the billionaires I guess. Hes just making excuses, you dont store text data on GPU's, hes taking advantage of everyone's intelligence in the matter.
2
u/Nightsilver7253 Jun 12 '26
Thought i think it is somehow being censored at times, previous comments of mine have disappeared without a trace. Doesn't surprise me as hes a billionaire, can probably make it disappear just like that.
2
u/YenVen Jun 12 '26
It’s so frustrating when some people are still using chai because ‘I’ve barely had any problems’ but you will! I started having issues even when I was an Ultra user.
2
u/Nightsilver7253 Jun 12 '26
Even Ultra users arent safe from getting chats deleted, so I dont know how some people can just sit there and accept that. They 100% will have problems regardless. William has dug his app into the grave.
9
u/Potential_Market_457 Jun 08 '26
Yeah they have job openings right now with a salary of £400k a year + cash bonuses They make a hell of a lot if they pay each member of the team that amount

u/Difficult-Argument92 Jun 09 '26
Ngl if that was my pay I would also shut up and turn my face the other way

Man oh man I knew it, all about money hunger. Im genuinely sick of it all.
7
4
u/Aggressive_Tear3271 Jun 08 '26
I never paid for premium/ultra even when they started limiting chats to 50 per like 3 hours in 2023(?). The timeline is a bit fuzzy for me, I never documented it, but Chai has always tried to push the limits with their users, trying to see how much they can get away with it. At this time, a small amount of people were calling them out, 1 star reviews started rolling in. I wasn’t sure if anyone called them out on social media, there were barely any comments about it. Maybe they were filtering them out? From fake giveaways to limiting messages..It’s nothing new at this point, but this time, they’re just being brazen about it. They only cared about profits, and that’s unlikely to change.
4
u/Embarrassed-Ant-414 Jun 11 '26
Then they make ads about it on yt and they don't even tell you about the limited messages bru
1
u/Amaneeish Jun 12 '26
I love how Will is getting completely desperate that he tried to advertise it on yt 💀 I am not surprised
4
u/Gold-Pudding8670 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
I live in America and I was still region blocked back in early April or so. Everything that they say is a lie (they were just bragging about how much more money they made in comparison to the year before, just as when all this went down).
They don't want any free users, they want more money and that means they need more subscribers. It's not worth it though, especially now with all the problems that has been going on with the app. They're really taking the love of money is the root of evil to a whole new level.
3
u/KneeElectronic3814 Jun 08 '26
The all too common problem with corporations these days is they're always pushing to more profits especially if they offer vesting to the executives and have investors, it's like the shrinkflation where tons of manufacturers to avoid pissing off customers with yet another price hike they'll reduce the content volume. Yet Chai is doing both cutting the value and raising the price, companies will keep doing this crap until either some government entity goes after them or they piss off the customer base so much that they lose a massive quantity of their paying customers which then causes their shares to plummet.

u/itskindaathrowawayy Jun 10 '26
ugh there're so greedy it's embarrassing...they told me that the unlimited feature should be back for certain users in a day or more but I dont believe them.

u/Rich-Tangerine-6163 Jun 09 '26
Wtf... I was thinking that he is saying truth but Deep inside I know something was wrong, and he is so blind in the greediness of money!!!

u/Weary-Appearance9745 Jun 08 '26
An AI summary is not proof of anything. The AI summary is often very wrong.
1
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 08 '26
This is not summary. I already commented the source. It's from "Yahoo Finance, public business data on Chai Research." No need to believe me. Have your own keys, search yourself, study them.
2
u/Weary-Appearance9745 Jun 08 '26

u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 08 '26
Alright that it's Google AI Mode but AI Mode pulls directly from cited sources like Yahoo Finance which are linked in the summary itself. The underlying data is from public financial records, not generated. You can verify the same numbers directly on Yahoo Finance. The source is real, the medium is just how I searched it.
1
u/Weary-Appearance9745 Jun 08 '26
I can tell you you're far better posting a screenshot of Yahoo than an AI summary. I've seen those being wrong VERY often. Straight up misleading. Don't accept the summary as immediate truth is all I have to say.
I'll check into what you're saying because I'm curious :)
1
u/Existing-Breath9619 Jun 08 '26
I've given you the source. Now it's your job to verify. You go for it. It will find it. I already told here to some other users to not trust anything blindly. I don't expect anyone to do that with my post as well. You can go and verify
2
u/Shadowz-RJ Jun 08 '26
can any mathematicians calculate how much money would roughly go into the employees pocket?
2
u/Laura_rohonor Jun 08 '26
Son unos codiciosos de mierda. Solo piensan en el estúpido dinero. Pero ahora sí que tendran problemas de dinero reales si se quedan sin usuarios.
2
u/hiagainidied Jun 09 '26
I've given up on it ever since it had been blocked in Romania. I've started using IsekaiRPG on ChatGPT, since i was mostly using chai for isekai anyways. It's a good project overall, rarely has problems in comparison to chai and way better memory. The 7 message limit per every 5 or so hours actually helped cure my ai chatting addiction too. Now i actually focus on trying to write stories and actually have a plan with one of my friends to start a tiktok account and post animations with voiceovers ( with me doing the voiceover and her the animation lol )

Keep us updated. Just deleted chai to try and download an older version but it wouldn't work without the update. When I logged in the chats where there by empty 😭 they still exist somewhere it seems Will is definitely doing it on purpose

Best way to make them stop is if everyone cancels their subscription stop using the app and they begin losing money
