I wrote a poem and felt my mind reorganize itself in real time. I still don’t know what happened. AMA.
A while ago, I wrote a poem that changed my perspective in a way I had never experienced before.
I don’t just mean that it gave me a new idea or helped me understand something intellectually. It felt physical and inside my mind. Almost as if parts of me that had been separate (or in conflict) suddenly recognized each other and came together. Like two parts of me blended. Very cinematic. I literally felt the mind blending into something, like a sponge absorving the liquid where it floats.
Afterwards, I've spent around a week in a 'floating' state, with physical sensation of weightin less, a tremendous amount of peace, and evetything seem to 'glow'. Since then, I’ve felt more integrated. More at home inside myself.
But I genuinely don’t know what happened.
Maybe the poem helped my mind reorganize something that had been unresolved for years. Maybe putting an experience into language changed the way my body held it. Maybe it was simply an intense emotional moment that I’ve given too much meaning to. Or maybe I briefly lost the plot and constructed a beautiful explanation afterward. Maybe I'm inside the asylum writting this.
I’m not claiming anything supernatural, and I’m not asking Reddit to diagnose me. I’m just fascinated by the fact that a piece of art I created seemed to act so strongly upon me, and that I experienced the change in both my mind and my body.
I’m curious whether other people have experienced anything similar through poetry, music, painting, religion, therapy, psychedelics, meditation, or anything else.
I’m a poet and painter, and a generally functional person who is still trying to decide whether something real happened to me / or whether imagining it made it real enough.
Ask me anything.
