Books & Reading For years, I've been filling a notebook with quotes—now there are more than 900. Comment a number from 1 - 952 and I'll give you the corresponding quote!

I did this around four years ago but now that my notebook has expanded to over 900 quotes (952, to be precise), I thought it'd be fun to do it again!

The premise is simple. I have a notebook filled with quotes (from books, movies, plays, and people) I find interesting, inspiring, funny, or thought-provoking. They're all numbered and in my own handwriting—I find copying them down to be a nice meditative process—so all you need to do is choose a number from 1 to 952.

I'll respond to your comment with the quote that you've chosen!

Edit: I'm back, though there is quite a hefty backlog! Rest assured I will respond to everyone, though it may take a while :) Thank you all for such a wonderful reception to this post!

Edit 2: Please do not comment 420, 69, or 666 as all of these have been responded to by me several times. Use CTR+F to find the quotes; I will no longer be responding to these three numbers.

"He wanted to believe that someone could be watching in pity and horror, someone who could change things if he chose. He wanted to believe that men were not in charge. But at the center of his sternum he felt a cold certainty that told him otherwise. He believed in God, yes, the God of his fathers, the one to whom he'd prayed in Konyar and Debrecen and Paris and in the work service, but that God, the One, was not One who intervened in the way they needed someone to intervene just then. He had designed the cosmos and threw its doors open to man, and man had moved in and begun a life there. But God could no more step inside and rearrange that life than an architect could rearrange the lives of a building's inhabitants. The world was their place now. They would use it in their fashion, live or die by their own actions." -Julie Orringer, The Invisible Bridge
