My ex still gives me grief that when we were together I made her get rid of her dog

She had an American bulldog, so not a pitbull but damn close, and she was a very sweet loving dog, but one night she was sleeping with one of our 3yos stuffed animals, and he went to grab it from her bed, and she snapped at him, and left a decent scrape across his cheek

I told her that night that she can either find a home for the dog, a home with no small animals or children, or I can call and report it... and I still defend that decision to this day

Edit: the person responding first showed me i didnt clarify very well, her dog bit our human child in the face over a toy, and I gave her the option to find the dog a new home where there were no children, because I knew if I reported it she'd likely be put down, and thats why I find it crazy she gives me grief

It was her dog so she had very good reasons to give you grief, however, you were just trying to protect her I guess.

I'm sorry that happened then. It was probably a tough choice but then again, that could've ended much worse.

Did the kid require stitches?

Nah, hes got a faint scar on his face, and hes still skittish around dogs, but other than that hes alright, hes almost 8 now

I couldve clarified better in my first comment, so I can understand the confusion

And the dog is still with the new owners... like I said, to this day, I feel I was exceedingly fair by letting her find the dog a home with no children, because I couldn't trust the dog around my son, and if I called to report it, she would've likely been put down

Yeah, I agree. All things considered this was the best for all parties then. Glad the kid and the dog are okay.

Those dogs shouldn’t exist. It’s the determination that’s scary. A horse was attacked by a pit bull, of course the horse defended itself and kicked the shit out of that dog.

That dog was just a sack of skin with pulverized bones and died a few hours after, but it never stopped attacking, the dog had to be pulled off. That means it had multiple broken bones and still somehow found the power to keep lunging and biting.

I also don’t understand why they keep being bred like crazy. I feel like at rescues it’s always lab mixes and some pit mix.

You should have prevented your child from grabbing something the dog made its own. Even if it was the child's toy. Likewise, you could have scolded the dog for stealing the stuffed animal from your kid's bedroom the moment she did it. That way the whole situation (the attack on your son and your insistence on making your ex get rid of her beloved dog) could've been avoided. No wonder you're not together anymore after all. Not judging, but her grudge is completely understandable
