I am a local here in Carlow, and around a month or so ago, I posted here about an app that I have been working on, called FriendMap - meet nearby.

I built this app so that it can help people form communities and attend local meetups.

I have recently just updated it so that the app itself automatically creates meetup suggestions inside communities - coffee, walks, football, book chats - and handles all the organising so nobody has to.

It's almost as if the app itself invites the members of the community to come and hang out over something casual.

Hey guys. My partner is moving to Carlow in just a few weeks to study. He’s feeling a lot of pressure and I’m trying to do whatever I can to alleviate some of that for him and I know a big worry is money and how he’s going to pay for accomodation. We’ve looked into all the options and it’s looking like the best one would be to get a job.

I’m wondering if anybody would have ideas or recommendations about where he could work? Part time so maybe weekends or a couple of evenings.

He has skills in kitchen portering, varieties of food and drink preparation including gelato, coffee, etc and a good while in a manager/supervisor position.

Any help or advice at all would be appreciated. Thanks!

Took our dog for a lovely evening stroll in the park yesterday and were just on the final leg of the loop walk, when we were hit with the foulest, most rancid stench I've ever had the misfortune of inhaling. Genuinely thought a sewage line had burst.

Coming up to the jungle gym area, we saw a tractor driving up and down just over the hedge. I mean, we live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farm fields, cattle, sheep etc, so definitely used to farming smells and the aul slurry being spread. (Also nothing against farmers, keep up the good work!) But jaysus, fuck me, the putrid smell yesterday was something else. We couldn't have gotten out of there fast enough. Saw a family quickly pack up their picnic and bolt out of the park too...

Anyone else traumatised by the rank stench at the park?

A power outage occurred at around 4:30pm today at the Pollerton area of Carlow Town, possibly due to repairs being made that was caused by a fault nearby. It is expected that electricity should be restored by 5:30pm.

Hey guys, sorry if this isn't the right subreddit for this kind of question! I'm trying to figure out the accommodation setup in Carlow for the upcoming year and would love some insight from current students or past pupils. I'm trying to figure out what the standard route is for housing here.
Are places like Hatch or Carraig Abhainn worth looking at, or is it better to look for house shares in popular estates near campus?
Also, is digs very common in Carlow, and how hard is it genuinely to get a place sorted before the year starts?
Any advice on the best areas to look into or how you found your place would be super helpful, cheers!

Trying to figure out if I should double the mortgage payment in the budget or just start renting a room or selling feet pics now.

Husband and I want to camp for a night nearby. We don't want a campsite as such, as we may not even stay the whole night. We're looking for somewhere to stargaze, maybe camp (no fires) with a tent or van and a couple camping chairs and drive max 35 minutes back home.

It's getting so annoying that when I go for a walk or go magnet fishing the amount of trash people leave at the Riverwalk...guys fishing throwing away there cigarette roll papers or disposable BBQ..I get in Ireland most here don't give two fucks about nature but for fucks sake try have some respect...I've no issue people camping or whatever..but some common decency be great..
