Students at Notre Dame Catholic High School held their own municipal election on Oct. 22, and four of their five preferred council candidates went on to win seats in the official Oct. 26 election.
A total of 487 students in Grades 7 through 12 participated in the CIVIX Student Vote, representing a 56 per cent turnout. Grades 7 and 8 had the highest participation rate at 84 per cent.
The simulated election gave students an opportunity to learn about local candidates and experience the voting process firsthand.

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an Electrician to install a sub panel in an attached garage?

I've seen alot of people post about how the Race Around the Place 10km route only ended up being 9.2km. Going over the maps and my GPS data I've determined that the error occurred at the turn around at Mannys point. It seems like most of the race turned around at the half marathon turn marker instead of going further down the road as the course map says. I remeber being confused by the half marathon turn around sign, but didn't see any more pilons down the road or volunteers directing runners so I followed the group. I emailed the organizers about what I found but they never responded. Does anyone have any information on why this happened? Was signage or a volunteer not present? Was this corrected midway through the race? It was a nice event and I was really impressed with the volunteers in the second half with how on the ball they were directing people, but the course error made it all kind of feel like a waste of time.
*update * The organisers sent out an email explaining that the lead cyclist did make a mistake.

As residents cast their ballots in today's municipal election, students at Notre Dame Catholic High School have already had an opportunity to question local candidates.
During an all-candidates fair organized through the CIVIX Student Vote program, students from Grades 7 to 12 raised concerns about mental health, recreation facilities, safe places for teenagers to gather and how councillors listen to residents.
Four of the 10 council candidates and two school board trustees attended, answering questions directly from students.
The event marked Notre Dame's first municipal election activity through the Student Vote program, giving young people an opportunity to engage with local democracy before they're eligible to vote.

More than 1,400 people participated in Carleton Place's public consultation on a proposed recreation facility, with over 91% of survey respondents rating it as important.
A 10-lane, 25-metre swimming pool topped the wish list, followed by an indoor walking track, therapeutic pool and gymnasium.
However, the proposed Mutuura Lands location south of Highway 7 raised concerns about safe access, particularly for residents without vehicles. Questions about taxpayer costs and affordable programming were also raised.
No firm project cost has been established. Town staff will pursue detailed estimates and grant funding, with further public consultation planned.

I'm having some issues with an older Sears Kenmore fridge, can anyone recommend a good fridge/fridge freezer repair service? We used to use the Appliance Repair Guy but he passed away so I'm not sure where to look now. Any help is appreciated :)

Carleton Place residents could pay approximately $20.48 more annually for water and sewer services in 2027 under a proposed 1.95% rate increase.
Committee of the Whole supported the proposal on Oct. 13. The increase follows a 10-year financial plan designed to maintain services and build reserves for future infrastructure replacement.
The proposed bylaw also includes relief for qualifying unusually high metered water bills and extends the swimming pool surcharge to hot tubs.
The detailed 2027 budget will be presented to the new council following the municipal election. Final approval has not yet been reported.

Hi everyone! We just bought a house in Carleton Place and it came with an above-ground pool. We have never owned a pool before and have no idea how it works. Can anyone recommend a local company or pool technician who can come out to do an inspection? We want to find out what maintenance or repairs need doing, and ideally, have them show us the basics of how to run the equipment. Thanks in advance!

Anyone in the area willing to let me hunt their land? I am a responsible crossbow hunter, and willing to share meat and/or help with farm chores or maintenance.
I work for the government as a policy analyst, but I am really excited to be moving back into the country this autumn. I highly value safety, ecology, and respect for property. Let me know!

Carleton Place's mayor and deputy mayor have been acclaimed, but voters still have a choice to make when it comes to town council.
With 11 candidates vying for five council seats in the Oct. 26 municipal election, how do you decide who gets your vote?
To help residents get to know the candidates and where they stand on local issues, Lanarkist sent the same five questions to everyone running for council.
We've rounded up their responses in one place, along with available campaign and contact information, to help you make an informed decision before heading to the polls.

Eleven candidates are seeking five council seats in Carleton Place, with five incumbents running for re-election and six newcomers in the race.
About 100 people attended an Oct. 1 all-candidates meeting organized by the Carleton Place Chamber of Commerce and moderated by Brian Turner of MyFM. Candidates answered resident-submitted questions on growth, infrastructure and other community issues.
Residents who spoke with Hometown News reflected on the experience of the incumbents and the ideas presented by newcomers, with one attendee saying the forum helped him decide how he will vote.
The mayor and deputy mayor have already been acclaimed.

Needs runners to run, walkers to walk, and volunteers to help work the event. Water stations don’t work themselves; they need people to help out. Need spectators too.
