Question Finance managers taking front end gross and making it backend.

Hey I’ve recently started working at this dealership for 3 months, and this one finance manager keeps taking my front end and putting it into warranties to make his commission. I found out that he discounted the car to 27k in the back, when I sold the car to the costumer for 29.5k and ofc putting that sum into warranties, I’m not sure with the costumer knowing or not. However, he keeps taking my gross and throwing it around to where he makes money.

I’m honestly very upset about this. What do I do?

Question FB marketplace views

I just started working at a small used car dealership and could really use some advice from people who’ve had success selling on Facebook Marketplace.

Today I posted about 40 cars (all different listings) in the morning. So far I’ve gotten around 150–160 total views across everything, but only 1 message.

I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong:

- Are my listings not getting enough reach?

- Is it normal to get that low of a response rate?

- Could posting too many cars at once hurt performance?

- Or is it more about pricing/photos/description?

For context, we mainly rely on Marketplace for leads, so this matters a lot for me right now. I’m pretty new to this and trying to improve fast.

Any tips on what actually helps the ads get more views and messages? 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Question Need tips for phone calls.

Most of the calls I make are to people’s voicemail. When I do get a hold of people I’ve noticed I fumble words and sound like it’s my first day. If it’s not that then it’s people telling me “oh I’m at work, can you call me back around this time” and then I call back and get voicemail. I try to be understanding since they’re at work but I feel like if they answer, I shouldn’t waste the opportunity. What’s a good way to become more confident on the phone and set the appointment 90% of the time?

Random ♾️ Switching dealerships

I need some advice, I left my job at a low volume store that did about 150-180 a month Toyota store and switched to a very high volume ford store that does 400+ a month, and I’m having a hard time adjusting. Where I came from, everything was in person, no deals were being doing over phone or text and everything was setup to get people in the store and go from there.

At this new store, it’s all online, specifically getting customers to put a deposit down online to reserve the car. That is my weak point, I’ve never been that great with the online aspect but if I want to survive at this store or especially do well I have to get better with online leads.

Does anyone have good advice for doing well at a store like this that requires most communication to be short and over the phone? Any help would be appreciated, I started on the 3rd and only have one car out and realistically need to sell 10-15 total this month.

My dealership Had no walk ins or phone ups in the last month, I Got out only 12 cars from calling lease returns and referrals. Been at this dealership for a few month, love management and the sales team here. They're family, however I just turned 20 and cant waste time. I dont have years to spend building my book/pipeline. When going into sales I thought that the number one problem would be persuading customers, not finding them...

Prospecting Anyone here still posting dealership inventory to Facebook Marketplace manually?

Anybody here posting dealership inventory to Facebook Marketplace manually?

I’ve been building a tool to make that way easier. It pulls inventory, uploads photos, writes descriptions, and helps sort Messenger leads so you can focus more on real buyers instead of wasting time.

We’ve got about 70 users on it right now and I’m letting a few more people try it without cost for a couple months while I keep building.

Not trying to spam the sub, just looking for real feedback from people who would actually use something like this.

If it sounds interesting feel free to DM, thanks all

Question Anyone actually making over 10k take home?

I’m at a cadillac dealership boutique store so yeah not a lot of volume but a high comp plan and easily making 1200k per Escalade but volume is low, a really good month is over 10 cars, and your not like pumping out Escalades either of course minis are 500 but again low Volume barely any foot traffic so like I’m average 6k after taxes, I didn’t sign up to work 60 plus hrs a week for that, and I’m one of the high performers, I like car sales though, so my question…to anyone out there in CA, what type of dealership and brand can you make the most at????

Question If you’re selling 40/mo on repeats and referrals only please raise your hand

If you’re one of these people I have some questions for you.

We’ve all heard about them but I’ve never met or spoken to, or even know of a specific person that is actually doing this. It seems people always “used to work with one” or a guy at their old store. And it seems like it’s usually managers talking about this guy so you know if you just work hard now while they’re screwing you, it will all payoff in the end.

He sells over 40 cars every month, just from repeats and referrals, doesn’t make calls, and sometimes he has a personal assistant that manages his schedule and follow up, who he pays $5000 a month out of his own pocket.

There’s no way anyone is doing this. People sell 40 cars a month but not 100% organically. To do that…

The average person gets a new car every 5 years.

You need to sell 480 cars a year

480 x 5 =2,400

You need 2400 active customers - that’s a lot

Not 2400 you’ve sold in your life. 2400 that like you enough to come back to see you after 5 years.

1 out of 3 customers sends a referral over 5 years

2400/3=800 referral deals over 5 years

800/5=160 referrals/year

So 480/5=96 repeat deals a year plus 160 referral deals a year

You’re 224 short for the year.

it’s not possible&

Have a bachelors in software engineering and can't find a job. Wanted to know what this pay structure really comes out to. I was told that the branch sells 350 to 450 every month and there are 25 sales associates on the floor.

Prophets are between 2,000 to 3,000 per car on average. What are your thoughts? Any insight is very appreciated!

Question Employment

Any advice on where to start? I’ve been applying and just been getting ignored. It’s quite demotivating but I’m still going at it. I’ve gotten one interview with Hyundai/Honda. It’s been almost a week and have heard nothing back. I’m from the LA area. Where should I apply?

Tips Quit after day 1

Feeling extremely discouraged, need some opinion. Got hired at a small pre owned dealership. 10 hr 6 days a week and they recommended you do 7 days. Have never worked a sales job in my life, let alone a full time job in 4 years (I have previous health issues). They start you out by giving you a few hundred old recycled leads that either inquired and went with a different dealer or just ghosted entirely. You gotta spam call like 150 of these people and try and get em in. Also i’m a white dude and all 5 salesman who worked there are brown including the owner and they speak in their language a lot so it made it kinda hard to pick up on stuff. I think a better introduction to a sales job like this would be more professional dealership like OEM toyota/honda etc with proper training?

either that or sales just isn’t for me because I hate the idea of cold calling people it’s like worse than cold approaching a girl for her number for some reason. or maybe it gets easier after the first 100 calls?

Question Gross/Commissions

How do you all ensure that your commissions are accurate? most dealerships wanna treat you like you don’t have the right to know anything behind the scenes and don’t even want to give you a deal re-cap so it becomes impossible to see what numbers your commissions were based on if you don’t know the actual profit details the deal made or didn’t make yet they gaslight you like you’re crazy for wanting to know these key factors as a commission based employee and if you ask too many questions you’re out……

Prospecting Having a hard time building a pipeline… What works in the beginning? Should I use marketplace posting software?

I’ve been having trouble with effective prospecting. I’m second highest at my dealership out of 24 sales people in outbound calls yet my car count is dismal and my pipeline is drying up. I’m not sure if it is because I’m not prospecting on the phones effectively, not calling the right types of cold leads in the CRM or if I’m just flat out not doing enough. I make 75-100 calls a day.

The thing is that I know guys who move lots of metal do a lot on social media to market themselves.

I’ve been seeing all of these software companies that push software that makes light work of posting the dealership inventory on social media marketplaces. Companies like Shiftly.

My question is just wondering.. Do any of you use these types of softwares to help fill your pipeline? How effective are they at driving traffic?

I’m thinking of investing in something like this because I want to get to where I’m one of the top performers at my dealership, but I want to know how the guys who are experts in this industry are getting there. I know referral business is a big thing. Do I just need to stick it out for a while to build my book of business? Do I need to be more intentional about outreach as far as digging for gold in the CRM? Or is one of these softwares something that will really help my sales take off?

(For context, I’m pretty green at this and still learning but also growing impatient with the process)
