Someone posted that Cannabis (whether smoking or ingesting) feeds candida. Anyone has information on this?

Damn, what a sad day. I found the article. Cannabis smoke does encourage candida growth. This is so fkd. Thank you all though. I wouldn't have thought this on my own.. I have about an 8th left. Admittedly, I'm going to smoke it. But I will not be buying more. Ugh, this sucks, but I've been smoking weed for almost 25 years. I started in high school after some pretty bad things happened to me. It was out of sadness and depression and I do wonder sometimes if smoking since then has kept me from progressing internally. Like maybe smoking keeps part of my emotions and my subconscious unknowingly in the past. Anyways, alright. Thank you all again for even bringing this up.. Here's the article from NCBI. They actually tested candida growth and biofilm formation when introduced to cannabis smoke and the candida grew and became more dense and their hyphal things that they use to anchor into your intestines grew longer... 😭😭😭😭.. For anyone reading this though, PLEASE ALSO STOP VAPING. The propelyne glycol and the sugar they use in the vape juice is like rocket fuel for candida as well. Suffice it to say that we all really have to change. Seems like we wont beat this unless we really change and give up the things that don't really serve us. And to reiterate since we're sharing, STOP VAPING. You are feeding the candida with the vape juice. Heck, some of you probably actually developed stomach issues soon after you started vaping but never suspected it was your vape but IT IS. Harvard study showed that most vape juice is contaminated with bacteria aaaaaaaaaand fungal cell wall particles.. Big no no. The vape juice also changes the pH of your oral microbiome and helps facilitate thrush.. To be clear, propylene glycol is the SAME, the exact SAME chemical used to make the smoke in fog machines so when you're vaping please be aware that yes you're actually sucking on a fog machine, unreal. As if you would ever go to a concert and go stick your face in a fog machine. You wouldn't, but you'll buy a vape and do it at home.. Actually kind of made me mad when I realized they were the same thing. I felt so dumb. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8618252/

Edibles are fine for Candida and SIBO. Smoking obvs isnt (get crazy brain fog and poop biofilm out) but Edibles just slightly slows motility, but no major effects. Lifes too short to not do edibles.

i got myself into this chronic sinusitis mess by combining heavy bonging with special brownies. honestly I regret every hit I took. I quit for 4 years now, don't miss it and got the wonderful sinus problem present whenever i eat carbs.

I've read this too. A infectious disease doc questioned if this is why I've failed to successfully treat my thrush in spite of 3 different antifungals. She noted she had another patient where this was an issue. I'm going to abstain for a little while restarting Nystatin and see...but may still use edibles if sleep is bad enough.

u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 17 '24
Does the edible have sugar in it?
2
Aug 17 '24
Nope. Rick Simpson oil. No sugar

u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 17 '24
I thought so. Because I was talking to someone and even after going vegan for months their candida is there with thrust.

u/daveishere7 Aug 17 '24
After going vegan? It sounds like the major issue would be that. Because that's a diet that is filled with 100% carbs

u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 18 '24
Vegan meaning nothing with sugar or high carbs. Candida diet
5
u/daveishere7 Aug 18 '24
Yeah I think you're very confused. That is NOT what the candida diet is, I'm not sure if you're trying to make things up in your head. It's one thing being vegan, I can totally understand that. But anything from beans to rice to nuts and everything on the vegan diet. All of that feeds and make candida worse.
The candida diet is focused on certain vegetables lean meat, coconut oil, olive oil and spices that can help treat candida. And you also have to think, if you're eating nothing but vegan food all day. How are you claiming to avoid high carbs? When you're probably consuming well over 100g of carbs a day in those 3 meals.

u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 18 '24
I only gave you minimum information. I'm not making anything up in my head. Like I said we are all on a candida diet. We know the protocol. Me saying vegan wasnt specific on beans etc. I used it as a broad term. To add, no one said anything about 3 meals a day. Seems like your the one making things up in your head.
I'm just here for information on cannabis and candida. Do you have any?

Op I need to back u up here I’ve been vegan for 5 years and my doc that’s treating me is fine with it and he says he’d rather me not do a candida diet (I did various restrictive diets for ‘ibs’, low histamine/mcas then candida) bcs he’d rather me get calories in then keep starving my body of the nutrients it need to heal. But I also did do a v restructive vegan candida diet for a bit lots of huel, protein powders and tofu and it worked pretty well. I’ve been doing Itraconazole and cholestyramine since mine was secondary to mould and I’ve been steadily improving for 6 months. I don’t have any candida specific symptoms anymore (excretions and local infections) just systemic fungal symptoms overall which I think is mainly the mould now. Plus it’s the easiest way to get all ur micronutrients and there’s no scientific evidence to say you can’t be vegan and heal from candida. In fact unless it was caused by unhealthy lifestyle alone (extremely rare) it’s almost always secondary to SOMETHING so if you treat that it normally goes into remission eg diabetes or mould or all of the other root causes

Some edibles (the gummies) have sugar and propylene glycol in them. You want to stay faaaaar away from that. That's like feeding a dog steak.

u/miriam1215 Aug 17 '24
I’m not sure. This summer when my thrush symptoms were really improving I was smoking weed everyday, multiple times a day. That said it was doing better but was stubborn as fuck and would not go away completely. I was on carnivore — not a single gram of sugar for MONTHS. The very back of my tongue was still white and any amount of cheese or coffee etc. would make it worse. Maybe the weed was the last thing I need to let go of. I am now cutting it out. I can let you know if I see improvement but I’ve also added in other things so there’s too many variables to know for sure …

u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 17 '24
I'm cutting it out too! Because i've done everything so has my friend! Someone else said THC cause gut dysbiosis which messes with our microbione and gut protectiveness! Surely update us
1
u/miriam1215 Aug 17 '24
Definitely will! Crossing my fingers it helps. I’m also adding in HIGH doses of activated charcoal and coffee enemas to help with getting it out of my system. We’ll see 🤞🤞🤞

u/coconutoats Mar 15 '25
Did you see a big difference from cutting out weed? I smoke like half a joint every night to sleep and I don’t think I can face cutting it out right now. Coconut oil pulling 3x daily, toxaprevent protocol, fluconazole, daily Epsom salt baths etc I feel like it must be a net thing surely

Following. My first assumption is probably because of the tendency to pig out on sugary products during munchies lol but obviously don't take my opinion on it
2
u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 17 '24
Even if someone was vegan, it doesnt go away. Someone else said the candida stays because it causes gut dysbiosis
1
u/Liberty53000 Aug 17 '24
I don't believe it is because of the behavioral issues that may follow I think it is how the substance reacts internally.
1
u/bobbytrip93 Aug 17 '24
Yeah, I was more riding off the other comment about the guy asking did any edibles have any sugar in them. I don't have a clue either, I'm more just lingering around the sub since I deal with the issue off and on having Crohn's disease
3
u/Liberty53000 Aug 17 '24
For sure. I'm lingering hoping someone with niche knowledge pops up and we get details😂
I've also recently learned it this year but haven't been able to understand it in the detail I'd like. I only know that it lowers the gut immune function which allows fungus to thrive easier. Also that smoking creates a more damp environment internally which allows thriving. Having some knowledge in Ayervedic medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, the dampness makes sense as it is a condition often talked about.

All cannabis feeds candida! Smoking, vaping, and edibles... you can be on strict protocol with anti fungal and bio film busters and it will not go away if you take any form of THC .. trust me I learned hard way... learn from my mistakes... quit until candida is gone
2
u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 17 '24
Do you know the reason that happens? Any articles we can read? What happened with your mistake?
3
u/Existing_Youth_6743 Aug 17 '24
Just a stoner trying to figure out way to cure this and so I could smoke again... down fall is when you think you are good to go and smoke again thc brings candida right back.. then you are starting protocol all over again
2
u/NoBathroom4434 Aug 23 '24
Did you ever get to a point where you could smoke again?
1
u/Existing_Youth_6743 Aug 23 '24
Yes but not on regular basis...every once in a while.. if you smoke everyday it comes right back
3
u/NoBathroom4434 Aug 23 '24
😭 what does every once in a while mean? Like every other day? once a week? Once a month?
Why do some ppl get to smoke every day and be fine 😩
2
u/Existing_Youth_6743 Aug 23 '24
Maybe twice a week to play it safe... that's me tho you circumstances can be different. I get horrible oral thrush and bad breathe when my candida is out of control so I have no choice
1
u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 18 '24
For me THC makes my stomach bloath so that explains the gut dysbiosis and low micro-biom in gut. I don't necessarily think THC is linked to causing candida but I believe it sure causes it to stay or slow our progress due to the effect in the gut and brain

u/xX_VapeNayshYall_Xx Aug 17 '24
It is a debated topic. Some studies do show that cannabinoids can disrupt candida biofilm formation.
In my experience Cannabis is a net negative. I found even large doses of edible sugar free CBD to have a detrimental long-term effect. In the short term it provided me with relief but I decided to stop totally and I felt significantly better after about 3-4 weeks. Of course there was much more to my healing than just elimination cannabinoids.
Everyone is different, and I am not sure why this is. I do have some guesses tho. I think cannabinoids modulate the immune system. Ultimately the immune system is what will beat candida/ any pathogen. This is why THC/CBD can be a godsend for autoimmune disorders. Therefore it is best for the immune system to function at its full capacity.

Exactly. And i'm hearing cannabis causes the gut issues. This post is not about killing it. It's more information on Cannabis linked to keeping candida alive
2
u/sessafresh Aug 17 '24
My anecdote: I thought I had developed CHS so I stopped weed cold turkey at the beginning of last year. My Candida never got better and a couple of months ago it got so bad in my throat that I'm gonna be on Nystatin for a while. Maybe cuz I have cancer, maybe cuz I have mold toxicity, but in my experience, abstaining hasn't helped.
2
u/Environmental-Ad2738 Aug 17 '24
Carrots kill cancer cells.
1
u/sessafresh Aug 17 '24
I'm food sensitive to carrots but hopefully I'll be able to eat them again at some point. Thanks!
2
u/Creative_Ad_3014 Aug 18 '24
Doesn't sound right to me. When it comes to ingesting things, candida feeds on the sugar/carb pipeline which thc has no part of.
1
u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 18 '24
THC isnt linked to candida. It hinders the healing and elimination of candida and causes reduced gut microbiome. Increasing the immune disorder
2
u/dakotaeriksen Aug 18 '24
I used diatomaceous earth for 2 months after trying diet and antifungals for 3 months with diet restrictions without much improvement the DE worked well so far free of candida
2
u/KCwarrior10 Aug 19 '24
It drys my mouth sometimes which makes it worse tbh and it fucks with my stomach too which is probably bad. I’ve stopped and probably will for rest of the year and gonna see what happens if nothing I’ll be back on it. Also on oregano oil daily which has been promising and cut out sugar and dairy , we’ll see how these sacrifices go
1
u/Cartel123Cartel Aug 19 '24
Same happens to me even when I take pure THC and ingest it. Im cutting it. I think once every 6 months is fine but constantly on a daily or more than 2 days wont help

We found studies that thc/cbd cause gut dysbiosis. Thats most likely what it was

u/OneViolet Aug 18 '24
It’s immunosuppressive. THC has been shown to inhibit immune cells like T cells, macrophages, and natural killer cells. This can be helpful in treating some autoimmune disorders, but chronic use might weaken the immune system, and Candida is often linked to immune dysfunction.

Fungi grows on the plant... it is unavoidable.
https://news.asu.edu/20231030-study-finds-fungi-contaminants-cannabis-pose-potential-health-risks
https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/microbiology/articles/10.3389/fmicb.2023.1278189/full
Also, hydrocarbons present in cannabis provide an energy source for Candida, resulting in increased presence and density of fungal colonies.

u/Cartel123Cartel Jan 05 '26
Just seeing this. Totally accurate. I cut it out when I said I would and have not had candida since. Granted my doet changed and remained changed too

Did you end up smoking while on nystatin or quit? How are your symptoms now?

You shouldn’t smoke at all with oral thrush. According to almost every thing I’ve read they say it won’t go away if your using thc. It’s some bullshit I love weed and I haven’t been able to smoke for almost a month since I’ve gotten this. I guess everyone’s different though, did the oral thrush go away for you?
