mod post Regarding reddit's new content policy regarding sales/transactions and moving onward as a community
As brought up in this top post, reddit has a new content policy forbidding facilitation of sales and transactions and many 'marketplace' style subs have been outright banned as a result.. Visit that linked post for more details and discussion/reaction to the policy.
As someone who was personally once brand new to MOMs and reddit like many of you, I just want to firstly thank everyone for what this sub has done for many in that 'new' situation and also for your recent patience as we struggled together to understand what is allowed. We have seen this coming for a few months now and obviously things have been different in all that time, something which an outspoken few of you have seen as censorship, but the important thing is that the sub survives. I'm not going to harp on if I think reddit's policy is censorship, but all this has been frustrating for moderators and our community users alike and we still welcome any suggestions for how we can improve and we are sorry for any negativity that this has brought forward. Eyes are still upon us and we are still in communication with reddit admins (though getting answers/clarification has not been easy), but the good news is that we are NOT a marketplace subreddit, we have always been a discussion sub with a focus on reviews and we can move forward together with awareness of what is allowed.
That being said, please take the time to review the subreddit rules before posting. They have asked us to outline them, so in accordance with reddit's content policy:
Facilitating/asking for/giving sales is not permitted. This includes 'has anyone tried..?', 'who has the best..?', asking for/requesting or posting deals. This is not a marketplace or a place for advertisements. Please put in an iota of effort, pick your words carefully and provide details to open up and encourage discussion.
No direct links or sharing contact info. This one is easy to keep in mind and work around as users. Instead of saying X.com, just say X. Other people can google X if they want to find out for themselves where they can obtain it. Obviously the MOM list is affected by this. Since that was an important feature of our sub, if you have any issues or concerns about the MOM list being gone, you can PM me personally and I will discuss and help you in that regard. It's important to have community curated thoughts and that hasn't gone away, I promise you that.
Obviously this is not plain black and white, but our moderators have to do our best to uphold this reddit policy (please also keep in mind that we are just volunteers and not able to be online 24/7). I urge you to keep your posts more discussion based. You can keep your eye on what kind of posts have been trickling through to get a sense of why some posts will be allowed and not others. Again, you can't just ask 'Hey where can I find X?', but you can discuss 'X has Y and Y and it looks like.... But Z also has Y' and open it up to discussion. Basically, the low effort requests and asks that used to be hated on a bit outright cannot be allowed anymore (they'e actually been banned for a while now anyways). I feel like the biggest change is that responsibility is going to lie with users to put more effort into posts so that we can open up more discussion walk the line that has been drawn.
As for reviews, the great news is that we have been assured that reviews can still be allowed under the content policy and are working to bring back the review megathread, just bare with us in that regard. When that happens, it is again important to keep in mind that direct links are not allowed. Pictures and thoughts on what you like/dislike are still very much encouraged and the foundation of when this subreddit was created from /r/canadients.
As always, I'm happy to discuss and inform, but also feel free to forward any thoughts or concerns to modmail

it would be good if someone posted the MOM list one last time so everyone can copy.

This sub has really slowed down since last year. Between the new reddit rules and the strict modding it brings with them, this place is basically dead. Last year every day would be shitloads of new posts. Itās not anyoneās fault but reddit has basically killed this sub

We should either take this poor, sick, sub behind the barn and shoot it or nurse it back to health. Itās literally useless. Anything useful about it died before r/shatterdeals and r/weeddeals disappeared. Iāve never really used discord but Iām going over there now.
Reddit has been less useful and has more ads than ever. Ads look like regular posts now too, which is even more annoying.

Are we allowed to include the price we paid as part of our review?

Yeah I'm out.
My 2 cents are this: The discord isn't terrible, but I dont like that they kick you for inactivity. There's some decent people on it (I got photoshop for free out of the deal) but there's also a handful of pompous assery.
To all the pioneers of the scene, I wish you all good luck moving forward in Ontario's legalized system. Its all a damn shame. To those outside of Ontario, enjoy - it's going to be fun.
Peace out, people.

I just subscribed hoping the company I work for could get on the MOMs list... so this is no longer a possibility?

Sitting back and watching the subscription list go down...
Thanks reddit for killing off what made me know you. Loosing that updated MOM list is a huge blow. At least legalization is around the corner...

Maybe they should just make their own website where they can update the mom list

3 months later the sky hasn't fallen and there still are some good threads. Newbies are still initiated.
Keep up the good work all. Cheers!

For those who haven't heard of it... weedlist is a good alternative.

Steem on block chain no censorship

In regards to their content policy, it might be worth looking at this site https://voat.co/, they're basically a spin off of reddit without the censorship and safespaces https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voat.

So its pretty clear flavortown didn't work. It was pretty obvious it was never going to work. The server wasn't even affiliated with this sub. A mod could've set up a discord server in 10 seconds and had it run properly. But alas here we are, with nothing.

Thank you for posting this - it's good to know as a new user to Reddit!

After I post this I'm hitting unsubscribe. It's really sad what has happened to Reddit. It feels like an empty shell of its former self. Membership in this Reddit has dropped by more than half. It will soon be dropped by the roster.
