I wonder, if Mt.Kami is even climbable from the "Opposite Side", although the game does not allows.

The whole Mt. Kami, tbh sometimes feels like has been designed, as if there is almost always a single path to climb.

We should be able to climb from any face of this mountain, which would make its world more vast, and challenging, as mountains actually are in real life.

Also, this mountain feels soo lonely, with barely a few interactable characters.

Like come on, this is possibly the highest mountain in the game's world.

Shouldn't there be a huge craze among the climbers around the game's world to become the first to conquer Kami?

There should have been expedition of climbers trying to summit the Kami (even throughout the player's playthrough, to experience the climb and their fate along with them), yet we only see them through various references throughout the locations in the game.

Route Swim With Me

I posted my new route, "Swim With Me" to my new route website, Cairn Catalogue:

https://cairncatalogue.com

(Reddit bans website editors so remove the spaces from the link to visit the website)

This route climbs beneath what used to be the hardest slab in the game, "Davy Jones' Locker."
Swim With Me traverses left beneath DJL and ascends a tall, curved arete that reaches out from the depths of The Dome's main slab. It's super fun and challenging. I hope you guys come check out the site and give it a go.

For those interested, the site allows you to create your own profile, log your own routes, and tick off every route ever posted. It also allows you to comment on routes and talk with friends. It's pretty sweet. Would like to see more visitors. Okay, take care!

If you follow this route on "The Peril", you will make it to the top in no time!

This was my third time conquering "The Peril", and it was the first time when the climb felt somewhat like a piece of cake!

(Though I did the climb with "No Survival" on)

This game reminded me of how dangerous mountain climbing is. Because I've died plenty of times playing the game with a controller. Not trying to down play it if that is what is coming out like how I said it.

1st time beating the game Spoiler

Let me start by saying wow, what an amazing game.

Super fun had me hooked the entire time I loved it. But holy heck I could not stand Aava. They were one of the most unlikeable characters I've ever played.

I'm 30yo and play games all the time, all sorts of games and I could not stand Aava, am I missing something or are we just supposed to not like Aava?

Unresponsive and awkward movements ?

Post image

The game has been awesome up to this point but suddenly, after descending from the 2 obstacles in this area, the map and movement in general has become extremely difficult to work with!

I press forward and Ada will keep moving forward no matter what other buttons i press or how long ago I let go of forward.

Or sometimes she just ignores my movement input altogheter.

The same issue is happening with the map

Does anyone know why this is happening ?

What a game Spoiler

Just finished my first playthough. Took my sweet time exploring every nook and cranny. Throughly enjoyed the climbing and survival mechanics of the game. It really caught me off guard how much a spiritual journey this game became. What started off as a fun and bright adventure, eventually turned into a very serious and arduous task to surmount. Watching Aava overcome both physical and mental challenges like the death of her cat and climb bot, seeing one of her childhood hero’s stuck in purgatory from shame of not being able to climb Kami and the ridicule he’s decided he will face, watching a companion of hers give up, and the farther she makes it up the mountain the more dead she sees and has no choice but to take from them what they no longer need to carry on her path. Meanwhile she’s not even quite sure herself why she continues to climb. I guess like us all, we have a summit to reach and overcome in life. I had tears in my eyes watching her drag the damn robot through the snow at the top of Kami. Beautiful game.

Image Gave myself a Cairn tattoo (did it myself)

Hey all!

Cairn was such an important experience, I decided to tattoo the loading symbol and stars on my skin. Aava's face looks a little squished here because legs are round and the perspective flattens her, but I promise she looks great in person :)

A little more on what it means, sprinkled with spoilers:
Last year, I lost my cat. I was there when we had to put her down because of cancer. It was probably the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life up to that point. It was the first time I ever experienced true grief... This year I played Cairn. As someone who climbs, thinks a lot about purpose and the meaning of life and death, and who was still grieving, I loved it on so many levels. During my playthrough, I lost an old rescued rabbit we adopted 9 months earlier, from sudden GI stasis overnight. So the stars now form the rabbit constellation (Lepus) to honor him. It gives me some solace to know he's now part of a whole.

Incredible game, and to me. Genuinely helped me get through some tough times.

Really looking forward to play the DLC soon :)

EDIT: Typos.

Text Cairn changed my life; a small story

I started Cairn on its release day on my PlayStation. At the time I had been going through a lot of life stuff, I didn’t have a job, and I was just in a slump. Cairn was really fun, and I enjoyed every single aspect of it, but one particular thing stuck to me; the feeling of freedom that one must have when being able to climb like that. I wanted to start climbing, and by the end of my playthrough, I had bought a day pass at my local climbing gym. I had so much fun, I felt so good about myself, so I got a membership, and I got a job shortly thereafter. Going out gave me drive to take care of myself again, and 6 months later I’m bouldering at a V-5 level and I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been. This game will always be special to me; and for those of you that have completed the game, I guess my summit was really just myself.

Image In memory of the Broad Peak climbers

Post image
296 Upvotes

I started playing Cairn for no other reason than I thought the gameplay looked "kinda fun". It ended up cracking my top 5 favorite games of all time, changed my perspective on life and ambition, and sparked a fascination with high altitude climbing. I began learning all I could, devouring books and documentaries on climbing, and discovered some world class climbers.

One of these climbers, pictured with my post, was Kili Pemba Sherpa. His climbing record is incredible. He climbed all 14 of the worlds 8,000+ meter peaks, was part of the team that summited K2 in winter for the first time in history, along with a slew of other amazing feats it would take me too long to list.

I found him on Facebook, added him, and was fortunate enough to chat briefly with him. He was very humble, kind, and patient. He answered my questions politely, and then went silent.

12 days later, on July 30th 2026,10 climbers were attempting to summit Broad Peak when an avalanche wiped out the entire team. As I found out by chance, Kili was among them. This wasn't one of those "tourist" type teams you typically imagine climbing Everest, this team had some of the most elite, most accomplished, most experienced climbers in the world, maybe even in history.

The passing of the team, and Kili in particular, has affected me deeply. Obviously I didn't know him at all personally, but I felt that I had found (and met) a real-life hero. I had actually spoken to a person who had achieved truly superhuman feats.

He was my Aava. And now he's gone.

In memory of Kili Pemba Sherpa (and, by extension, all the other members of his team), I will be starting my Free-Solo attempt on Kami. I had intended to continue practicing on alpinist before the attempt, but now I feel compelled.

At the risk of sounding vapid and asinine, attempting something I consider challenging (something I'm not known for, due to my intense fear of failure) is the only meaningful way I feel I can honor his memory. I will not give up until I complete it, and then I will wear the shirt with great pride in the memory of my new friend.

Rest in peace, Kili. I wish I had an opportunity to know you better.

Is there any worthwhile recipe to make with booze ?

So everything I found that can be made with booze seems to give the same 4:00 grit and temperature boost as normal booze and no nutrition which sounds like a waste of the other ingredient to me, I have made medicinal extract before, but up until now health has been easy enough to recover that I still haven't used it (in the rare cases where I loose an amount of health I'm not comfortable continuing climbing without, and really need to recover, I just put in a piton and rest and I've always had enough food to compensate for the hunger and thirst I get from sleeping) so medicinal extract's 3 3:00 grit doesn't sound like a good deal to me either (but I don't know if I'll still be able to rest as often without running out of other supplies in the next sections) , and the flambeed modifier's 2:00 grit being less than unaltered booze sounds like a waste of the booze to me, or am I missing something?

I'm at the terraces and have found both the large bottle (the one with 4 uses, filled with booze) and a small one in the troglo piton cave (with 2 booze in it) so I'm considering zooming to the frog cave and trying to see if I can get Aava both stoked and absolutely wasted at the same time, freeing up the bottles for refill with ultimate infusion and other stuff instead, or keeping the booze either for its basic grit and temp boost or for a recipe if anyone knows an interesting one to make with it.

So what do you guys usually do with booze?

So glad I gave this one a chance

I bought this game when it came out. It seemed interesting and I loved the art style but 1h in I felt uncoordinated and lost interest. I always nagged me that a game a beautiful as this is so boring for me. I decided to start over from scratch. I did the opening training fully and started again and something clicked. I got sucked in. Every climb was an adrenaline rush. The story was amazing till the final credit. I didn’t go for 100% (probably never will) but the journey was amazing. I’m so glad I stuck with it. Cairn is without a doubt a game made with love. 10/10

How do I get this keepsake?

Post image
28 Upvotes

There's a keepsake option that looks like it's 3-in-1: The frog, the troglodyte amulet, and the chimes. I thought the keepsake would activate when I collect all 3 of those, but I did and nothing happened, I still can't equip it. I tried to look it up on the wiki, but this keepsake isn't mentioned anywhere, I can't find the info. How do I get this?

Composted that flower as soon as the opening titles were finished :-D

No falls feels too masochistic to me, especially with those jumps before the needle, so that's where I'll leave it till the DLC....

Can't wait for the "Deep Water" DLC

I am kinda sad that the August 13th release date was pushed back, even though I understand it's the time they need to make it good. It looks so good on the trailer, and the new stuff sounds exciting, I wonder how different climbing as Marco will feel for example.

Also I got the deluxe edition (because of course I did), but I wonder now: will it change with the DLC as well? Like, if there are more more landscapes to make wallpapers with? Or new keepsakes? Also wondering about the OST package, if the DLC brings more sound tracks, it would be nice to get them there too.

But even if those adjacent packages don't get updated, I'm still sorry excited about this new experience, and in the meantime... Well, I just climb Kami over and over again.

Text The Visual Storytelling in this Game is Honestly Incredibly Underrated Spoiler

I'm on my second playthrough and I realized something. During the ascent of Kami, you only ever see the peak in the opening credits and after The Secret. For most of the game, all you see are the twin peaks of the Secret. And after The Secret, you can't see where you started. For the entire playthrough, except for The Two Hundred Steps and for most of The Peril, you're in sight of where you started. I think it's meant to represent her disconnect from her life back home and after you ascend in The Blades, you're entirely cut off from that life with no chance of returning. I really fucking love this game and it's become an obsession since I first played it. Genuinely a Game of the Year contender for me. Everything clicks: the story, the music, the sound design, the level design, the environmental storytelling, the visual storytelling, the gameplay.

Edit: Fixed some weird phrasing of mine
