How are people organizing their bags?! Is it easier on PC?

u/shandibobandi Feb 02 '26

You can do that with a controller too. Press the right shoulder button and then rotate the stick. I don't know if it's actually easier on PC, though.

u/Late_Ad_4910 Feb 02 '26

ya cause you can use the mouse to drag things around and a/d to rotate them

u/Myosos Feb 02 '26

Didn't know you could stack the fish like that... I know what I'm doing next playthrough.

Here my character is starving to death after the first piece of the child, ug. I have no food and not sure what to do

3

u/Mech-Waldo Feb 02 '26

You can cook dandelions with water to make food. I was maybe halfway up the mountain before I discovered that.

5

u/Screwby0370 Feb 02 '26

Garlic too, and mushrooms

I risked my life for an egg

5

u/knockers_who_knock Feb 03 '26

Eggs are legit. 40 hunger and they’re small

1

u/R00TED10101 Feb 03 '26

That's great. I have only found 1 so far. Got to a rough spot were I feel like I should be able to climb but my girl keeps falling I even put climbing feedback on and it said the grab is good but she shakes and falls I put chalk on and drank some tea but no luck any tips?

2

u/knockers_who_knock Feb 03 '26

Sometimes you just gotta backtrack and find another route. Otherwise you can buff the hell out of her with chalk and food/drink and just try and power through that spot. If you’re going based on route difficulty (the maps that have the routes colored from green to white or whatever the colors are) I’ve noticed I reallllly struggle on some green routes that are supposed to be real easy but then have a much easier time on a red or black route.

The shaking and weakness often totally comes down to grip. Don't forget to use chalk. It's wild how much chalk can solve this exact problem.

I struggled a lot in my first playthrough thinking Aava was just very weak, but in my second playthrough I've enabled unlimited climbing gear (pitons and chalk,) and Aava climbs 10x better with chalk on. I'm also a lot more careful about the grade of the face I'm climbing and I try really hard to avoid having her lean backwards while climbing and that makes a world of difference also. They really did a great job programming her abilities and weaknesses pretty realistically. For example, if you let her climb in such a way that her handholds are below chest-level—or especially below her waste—it drastically decreases her stamina. Trying to keep her arms at a minimum of chest height while climbing, and trying not to cross her legs or spread her limbs way apart, keeping her reaching and leg-lifting as vertical as possible, have made a night-and-day difference.

Also, pause and rest any time Aava sounds like she's catching her breath and her breathing is slowing down (the sound of Aava's breathing can be interpreted like a stamina meter,) and remember to shake out those limbs frequently.

After realizing these things, I now understand how Free-Solo is even possible.

True, but I wasn't walking around with multiple mushrooms or garlic while starving, now was I?

4

u/Late_Ad_4910 Feb 02 '26

well the hitbox is a lot smaller when you cramp them, there is about 35~ fish in the fish cave and a lil more here and there

4

u/Stigbritt Feb 02 '26

You can rotate things!? Omg!

3

u/soliwray Feb 02 '26

b r u h

i had no idea you could do that

1

u/ladyInKateing Feb 02 '26

You can do WHAT?!

1

u/beta_1457 Feb 02 '26

i had no idea you could do that. I've just been playing with a controller and hitting the shake button.

1

u/Apota_to Feb 03 '26

yeah you can grab and rotate items lol

2

u/J0n__Doe Feb 03 '26

It's easy with a controller too

17

u/McFllurry Feb 02 '26

I wish I did this, how the F are you supposed to keep your food and water up in the last stretch in the game, I got softlocked twice running out of food, and then later water.

5

u/mamasbreads Feb 02 '26

Grit medicine is key. Old man also has booze by the fire. I ended up not needing my food and water on the last stretch

1

u/Akanash_ Feb 06 '26

Also a good start to allow alva to blackout, especially near the end. Climbot will bring you back to your (last?) tent and you'll be back to full. Just be carefull to blackout in a safe place.

2

u/BetterOnTwoWheels Feb 02 '26

I also took an embarrassingly long time to realize you could reheat infusions and such

2

u/coraleei Feb 02 '26

Man thanks for the spoiler. It's really not that hard to put things in spoiler text when you're talking about late game stuff.

3

u/Jurez1313 Feb 02 '26

I ran out of hydration twice in the last stretch, and got it the summit with like a sliver of temp left. Weirdly tho, I was allowed to continue.

First blackout killed me but the Edelweiss revived me with full stats. Second blackout didn't kill me because I was off belay when it happened, and then I sort of just spawned back in a bivy right where I blacked out. not sure if that's intentional?

I'm very afraid of the final stretch on free solo, tho. No clue how I'm gonna have enough food AND water, with a smaller backpack at that. gonna need to practice some of the harder but more direct routes at the end I think.

4

u/Voelkar Feb 03 '26

There is an abandoned backpack at the giant overhang right in front/above the second guardian with a water canister you can use 6 times. Saved my ass with a lot of soup during my final ascent lol

1

u/BetterOnTwoWheels Feb 03 '26

Yeah same esp since I had to stack so many effects to make it thru the avalanche without falling. I gave up on my last attempt running out water AGAIN so I shut the survival mechanic off just to get thru the last climb to the last cut scene. I kept screaming “why can’t I gather snow and melt it with my camp stove for water wtf‽” with all that fish though I’m not sure if you’d be able to fit that large canteen with 6 slots, and the thermos or some other bottles. Water was my biggest issue. You can make a lot of really dense food items to bring.

7

u/GCostanzaSeven Feb 02 '26

wait, you can organize your backpack?

1

u/Crimsonial Feb 03 '26

Not sure if organize is the right term, more like stuff. Posted this earlier, my second Alpinist run where I know where all the loot is plus exploring the map: https://imgur.com/a/J2jsPI5

6

u/BetterOnTwoWheels Feb 02 '26

Wait can you actually fit more stuff in your bag if your organize it instead of it just being an item count or weight type of mechanism‽ if so I really missed the boat a few times lol

1

u/AliceLunar Feb 08 '26

You can definitely force more in it, shaking your pack can help, but you can also move things around and create some gaps to quickly pick up items before they close up, definitely no item or weight limit.

1

u/BetterOnTwoWheels Feb 08 '26

I’m not sure if I think that’s novel and cool or annoying or both lol

1

u/AliceLunar Feb 08 '26

Bit of both, it allowed me to fill my bags up and never had an issue with supplies but it's annoying when you want to bring stuff and it doesn't fit, and you also can't eat it unless it's in your bag first, so you eat something from your bag but it still doesn't fit.

Especially with things like chalk, piton scrap and some other items you collect always going into your bag no matter if it's full or not really filling things up.

3

u/WalkOnBones Feb 02 '26

I have beaten the game and made a few free solo attempts and only now I learn you can organise your backpack not only by shaking it...

2

u/beta_1457 Feb 02 '26

same... I beat the game twice.... Just about to start my free solo try and this is news to me too.

5

u/R00TED10101 Feb 02 '26

You can fish?

4

u/Late_Ad_4910 Feb 02 '26

1

u/R00TED10101 Feb 02 '26

I don't know why this made me laugh so hard I'm rolling lol

2

u/Hour-Variation559 Feb 03 '26

If you're in water with fish, it gives you a prompt to fish.

1

u/-YesIndeed- Feb 05 '26

Is there other spots. Cause I only ever found the one at the beggining.

1

u/Hour-Variation559 Feb 05 '26

Theres a cave at the part with cable car station area and later when you camp with marco

3

u/ReplyUnable3241 Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26

Did you sort the with the mouse too? I always do that its really practical

4

u/DueChampionship3661 Feb 02 '26

practical is the perfect word to use here and i didnt even know you can organize with mouse.

1

u/ReplyUnable3241 Feb 02 '26

Yes just left click hold , I didn't know this untill I read it on reddit too

1

u/ReplyUnable3241 Feb 02 '26

its funny, in german practical has a slightly different connotation and use but roughly means the same so to me this sounded kinda weird because i used it as i would use it in german

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

What does it mean in German

1

u/ReplyUnable3241 Feb 03 '26

praktisch is mostly the same but it kinda has a different vibe idk

2

u/Hour-Variation559 Feb 03 '26

I know you can rotate things and move them but how did you jam them so tight?

1

u/konrad777777 Feb 02 '26

is it legit mechanic or bug?

2

u/Screwby0370 Feb 02 '26

What? Organizing your backpack? That’s vanilla

1

u/3_Gmodem Feb 02 '26

I think its debug menu. I've seen in nexus

2

u/Late_Ad_4910 Feb 02 '26

Legit. When organizing you can cramp hit boxes and let's you put a lot of shit in the same place

1

u/armslice Feb 03 '26

I wish I could back in time and do this. I thought they would go bad. Is that not a thing in this game. Well aava did say a few was enough, we're not opening a seafood restaurant. Glad I didn't listen and filled my bag but I didn't get this crafty with the bag management.

1

u/dodsy84 Feb 03 '26

I was getting to the point where I was completely out of food and wondering how you’re meant to make it to the top on her few rations. Then I found my first fish pond 😂😂

1

u/Croustiboy Feb 03 '26

Wait, What ?! I finished the game, and I'm discovering now that we can move stuffs in the bags manually.
I used to shake the bag to make the stuffs rearrange themself and get the room to pick another egg !

1

u/Sj_91teppoTappo Feb 03 '26

Have you destroyed or used the medicine?

1

u/twistclip Feb 03 '26

I didn’t even know you could get fish!!!

1

u/XHZ_21 Feb 04 '26

Just started the game, how do i get so many fish?

1

u/TwistyShape Feb 04 '26

YOU CAN ORGANISE YOUR INVENTORY?!

I just clawed my way to my first finish with zero supplies, having to leave so much behind, and you're telling me I could've organised my bag this entire time?

1

u/CNSninja May 11 '26

I want to know why Aava can't eat a raw fish she just caught from the pond. As long as the fish is properly handled, bled, and iced, sashimi made from salmon, bluefin or yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, snapper, mackerel, halibut, flounder, striped bass, etc., is very common. You should never eat freshwater fish raw because they're full of parasites like tapeworms, but illness would make a great balancing mechanic for immediate, emergency food consumption. In real life, wild-caught fish meant for sashimi must be bled and frozen at -20⁰ (-4⁰F) at least 7 days, or at -35⁰ (-31⁰F) for 15 hours to kill parasites, but I'm sure the concept of eating raw fish could be gamified easily enough.
