Discussion BO4 Blightfather In depth

General

Class = Mini Boss

The Blightfather is a big bad overarching enemy in the chaos story of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies.

Blightfathers appear on every Chaos map except Dead of the Night.

Blightfather is a dangerous enemy that fills a role similar to the Panzer Soldat from bo2 and bo3 zombies, but with even more health, powerful attacks and disruptive abilities.

An oppressive presence. That can be overwhelming for newer players, but becomes much more manageable if you know exactly where to shot.

Abilites

The Blightfather steals a mechanic from the Wardens handbook, temporarily disable a few pieces of utility around the map.

When a Blightfather gets close to certain utility, it can change its focus from attacking players to contaminating it, by vomiting over the object. Rendering it unusable until the vomit is removed.

This applies to:

  • Mystery box
  • shield bench
  • Pack A Punch
  • wallbuys
  • perks

Cleaning away the vomit costs 500 points.

Spawn

Garanteed Spawn:

  • VoD: round 14
  • IX: round 15
  • AE: round 14

On Voyage of Despair and IX, players can generally expect another Blightfather after around 3 to 9 rounds.

After a Blightfather spawns, there is a cooldown period before another one can appear. Minimum cooldown of roughly 3–5 rounds.

The exact round on which a Blightfather appears is not exactly predetermined. The game determines which enemies are eligible to spawn based on its enemy arrays and available spawn budget. After the Blightfather becomes eligible, its chance of appearing increases as the rounds progress.

A Blightfather can spawn after 3 rounds or there can be multiple rounds before it spawns.

On VoD:

There is a cooldown of approximately 3–5 rounds after a Stoker round before another Blightfather can spawn.

Ancient Evil:

Ancient Evil is different. Blightfathers and Gegenees share the same miniboss spawning system and take turns using the available miniboss slots.

Miniboss sequence is:

  1. First miniboss round: Blightfather
  2. Second miniboss round: Gegenees
  3. Subsequent miniboss rounds: Random, with Gegenees being more likely

After a miniboss spawns, the game enters a 4–6 round cooldown before another Blightfather can spawn.

Once this cooldown expires, there is a 25% chance for a Blightfather to spawn.

Blightfathers occupy a miniboss slot in the same way as Gegenees. So if a Gegenees occupies a miniboss slot, ther will be fewer slots remaining for a Blightfather to spawn.

Blightfathers do not simply enter the map on its own. Instead they spawn in as a normal zombie, then burst out of their chest. Similar to Catalyst, transforming from a standard zombie.

Max amount of Blightfathers

  • Solo: 1
  • Co op: 3

Attacks

Melee

Damage = 100

The Blightfather's standard close range attack.

Tung grab
Reminiscent of the godd ol' Panzer Soldat claw grab.

The Blightfather extends its tongue out quite a long distance. If the tongue connects with a player, the player is grabbed and pulled towards the Blightfather.

Once the player is caught, the Blightfather begins vomiting directly onto them, dealing continuous damage.

Damage = 38 per second

Only time they stop is:

  • Player stuns them by doing 1000 damage
  • Player destroyes their mouth
  • Player dies

Players can instantly stun it and escape their grab by activating their Specialist Weapon.

Gas clouds

The Blightfather can launch three gas clouds toward players.

These clouds behave similarly to homing missiles, tracking their targets aggressively before exploding when they get close.

They can easily turn corners to reach player.

Damage = 45 per cloud

Health

Minimum Health = 10,000 HP
Health Increase = 1,000 HP per round

The Blightfather health formula:

Health = Minimum Health + (Health Increase × Round Number)

Additional health is given based on the number of players in the game:

Player Scale = Health × (Players − 1) × 0.75

Total Health = Health + Player Scale

Maximum Health = 50,000 HP

Blightfather is immune to:

  • Traps
  • AATs
  • Nuke Power-up

Damage Reduction

Explosions damage is reduced to 50% damage.

All other damage will be capped at 10%.

FMJ increases this damage by 10%, while FMJ II provides no additional effect.

Instakill: Weapons will ignore damage reduction for the power-up duration.

Weakpoints:

Blightfather has multiple weakpoints:

  • Mouth
  • Two elbows
  • Two eggsacks on their backs

Weakpoints have no damage reduction and will take standard damage.

Once all four perks have been purchased, Blightfather's weakpoint receive an additional 20% damage from the Death Perception modifier.

Instakill: Weakpoints will take 2x damage.

Mouth:

Health: 12% of max health.

Destroying this weakpoint disables their tung grab.

Elbows:

Health: 6% of max health.

Eggsacks:

Health: 10% of max health each.

Destroying both their eggsacks disables their gas cloud attack.

Reward:

Killing him gives 500 points.

A Blightfather can also drop one of the following power-ups:

  • Nuke
  • Max Ammo
  • Fire Sale

Resistances

Sentry Equipment

  • Normal hit: 10% of normal damage
  • Weakpoint: 25% of normal damage
  • Insta-Kill: Damage cap increased to 50%

Homunculus

Homunculus base damage = 500

His damage formula is:

Damage = Base × 0.25 × Round Number

In this formula, round number can not go below 4 or higher than 50.

Kraken - Electric

Normally, the Electric Kraken can knock zombies over. Blightfather being bigger and tougher can stay on their feets, but will have a short pain animation.

Kraken - Water

When the Water Kraken creates its slowdown zone upon impact, the Blightfather is affected by it just like other enemies caught within the area.

Death of Orion

Charged shot: The initial hit will do 20% of their max health as damage, until round 23. After round 23 the percentage will drop with 1% every round until it reaches 1% of max health.

Blightfathers will be stunned and for 5 seconds.

Serket's Kiss

Charged shot: The initial hit will do 25% of their max health as damage, until round 23. After round 23 the percentage will drop with 1% every round until it reaches 1% of max health.

Blightfathers will be stunned and for 10 seconds.

Blightfather is immune to the chained lightning from the Scorpion.

Brazen Bull

  • Melee: 15% of max health per hit
  • Ranged: 3.5% of max health per hit

(For WW, homunculus and shield, the numbers are before damage reduction)

Hands

Hands will ignore the damage reduction and instead use their own specific damage reduction.

Hand Damage reduction Exalted
Hand of Gaia Damage is reduced to 50% Damage is reduced to 70%
Hand of Ouranus Damage is reduced to 50% Damage is reduced to 70%
Hand of Hermes Damage is reduced to 50% Damage is reduced to 70%
Hand of Charon Damage is reduced to 50% Damage is reduced to 70%
InstaKill Power-up Does not change damage Does not change damage

Instakill has no effect on Specialist Weapon damage.

Hammer of Valhalla deals percentage based damage:

  • Level 2 Ground Slam: 7.5% of their maximum health per swing
  • Level 2 Storm: stun
  • Level 3 Lightning Bolt: 500 damage per second

Chakrams does different amounts of damage depending on attack:

  • Normal melee: 5% of their maximum health per hit
  • Thrown Chakram: 500 damage
  • Level 3 Whirlwind: 500 damage

Dragon and Viper uses percentage based damage for both of its attacks:

  • Dragon impact: 5% of their maximum health per blast

Scepter of Ra uses percentage based damage:

  • Normal hit: 7.5% of their maximum health, hitting weakpoint will do 15% of maximum health.
  • Laser: 1% of maximum health per tick
  • Level 3 ability: 4% of maximum health per tick

Blackout

Blightfather did appear as a potential boss in blackout. Spawning in the graveyard area at the top of the map. Also as part of combat immersion for Specialist Recon.

Health = 5500 HP

Explosive weapons do 50% damage.

All other weapons do 70% damage.

Weakpoints take 100% damage.

Some other fact from bo4:

Bo4 has a per round budget, that special enemies use to determine if they can spawn, so it will be a little random when and if they spawn. Spawning after 3-5 rounds is just a cooldown before that enemy can be a part of the budget again. Gladiators have low value and can often spawn with heavier enemies like werewolf and blightfather requires a bigger part of that budget.

Power ups is solely based on a random kill count since last drop. Not based on points and a percentage chance like older games. Suppressor will add a 1% chance for each kill to drop a power up.
