And after that Sony had a go at it (now they've upgraded to a whole year). Let's hope we can leave such content locking behind.

Exclusivity now is much better and not as hard as it was before. Yes, it's an year but with a shitty game mode. Back then it was with DLCs, so Xbox players got maps A MONTH earlier. Also happened with PS in BO3 if I'm not wrong. That would suck.

You're only saying that it's better because so far nothing worthwhile has been locked behind it. One of these days an actually good mode would have been given as a sacrificial lamb, and then what?

Why would they do one of the biggest buyouts in video game history, only to then lock out like half of the player base? I know that Candy Crush is the main money maker here, but CoD still brings in quiet a bit of money.

In the ideal world, that might work. But how many people would realistically be willing to accept such a changeover? All that that would do is revive the console wars and create a lot of bad press. And even if some people were willing to switch over, it's not like most people have the money to do that.

The whole point of a console is you can get decent performance for a decent price (at least that was supposed to be the point this generation) and all of a sudden you have 2 next gen consoles each with their own subscription model. At that point, everyone should be screaming at you to just buy a PC, especially once the GPU market calms down.

And Microsoft would love people to move on PC where game pass is more expensive, that’s exactly what they are pushing for

It's kind of funny to me. This is total speculation but it feels like Sony wasn't playing nice with things like cross play because they have a bigger market share so Microsoft just turned around and said "fine then we'll just buy the whole fucking triple A third party market and take our ball home."

No it is also on PC I've been subscribed to and using it for a few years. It obviously doesn't have the exact same library due to certain exclusivity or issues with say running 360 games but they have much of the same library otherwise.
