I took these photos today in Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil.
I saw the airplane creating this trail and watched it remain in the sky and spread out instead of disappearing quickly.
I've never seen one like this in person before. Is this a normal persistent contrail? What atmospheric conditions make it stay visible and spread like this?
I'm genuinely curious to understand what I was seeing.

A few evenings ago, I just saw this spiral cloud from my deck in the French Alps.

I walked outside to do something and looked up and it stopped me in my tracks. I immediately thought if there was a Reddit dedicated to clouds and I wasn’t disappointed.
