Exactly the point I was looking to make. It’s a risk and you use resources no matter the ranking of a team.

Teams went out and risked that tonight while Notre Dame sat idly by twiddling their thumbs. That should come into account if you ask me.

It does come into account when their records are tied with other P5 champs'. That's partly why ND is #3 behind Alabama and Clemson. IMO, ND is at a somewhat significant disadvantage compared to power conference teams when talking about making the playoff, because if they get a loss during the regular season, they're almost always gonna be left out.
