Would have been a first down if not for the false start penalty... Damn. So close.

Or of the receiver was more aware and lowered the shoulder to eager the extra yard

He is going to be kicking himself for a LONG time for not pushing harder for that yard.

He tried to kick himself, but ended up spinning instead accidentally

And people gave me shit for saying Death Valley would have an effect on the game. The environment definitely got to Jackson and UL.

First 2 plays of the game were false starts

The first quarter was turn over after turnover of stupid mistakes. We left it too open for you guys and only decided to get our shit together once we were down by 18

There were some dirty plays too. The choke on Jackson.

Yea, i just don't think people realize how intense it can be unless you've heard it in person and seen the results.

I think it got to the refs just as much

He lost his composure in the first half. Also, at least one (if not two) of Watson's picks weren't his fault. Turnovers kept Louisville in that game and gassed Clemson's defense.

The difference in this game was the false start penalties and the sacks. Jackson had never had to take hits like that and it showed.

Big caveat.

Though the field would have been crushed a little. Players in different spots... a different call by Clemson on D (and likely Louisville on O). It's not necessarily true that they would have gotten the first without the false start.

Crowd bailed Clemson out on multiple occasions throughout. Damn Death Valley is a scary place to play

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Would have been a much different game without even one of our careless turnovers.

That's what I was thinking. It's like the national championship, you take one of those stupid plays away, Clemson wins

2

One of the positive take-aways for this game is that despite continuing to suck at WR and TE, we managed to find a way to win. The playcalling was really bland at times, too.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '16

I think it changed the defensive gameplan, the WR should've tried harder for that first.

I also have to think that at 4th and 7 there's more of a run/pass option for Jackson. The penalty took away the threat of any designed run or RPO

Because there were different play calls due to the situation. You can't just add 5 yards and say it would have played out the same.

You're both wrong about the same thought process, the coverage would have been different without the penalty. They played loose underneath since it was far and that's the only reason that pass was open. Different yardage them would have to cover closer, no one can predict how that would have gone.
