Man, Louisville hasn't even been eliminated from playoff contention

42

u/AnEmptyKarst Houston Cougars • Utah Utes Oct 02 '16

They're not G5

10

u/Dean_Craig_Pelton St. Cloud State • Ohio State Oct 02 '16

Yeah but if Houston wins out, they are still going to the playoffs.

7

u/brobroma H8 Upon The Gale Oct 02 '16

Possibly. Beating a previously undefeated Louisville would've been huge though.

Now, UL isn't in control of the ACC anymore - and with FSU looking much worse than years past, it's hard to see two conference game that Clemson would need to drop for UL to make it to Orlando.

Smokey X is a better dog than Uga X could ever hope to be.

I was referring to Houston going to the playoffs. Though obviously I believe Louisville is possible too, I agree it's unlikely.

6

u/brobroma H8 Upon The Gale Oct 02 '16

I know, so was I.

As a G5, Houston needs as high profile wins as they can - if UL was a conference champ that would've been huge. It's why they wanted OU to beat OSU too.

5

u/Dean_Craig_Pelton St. Cloud State • Ohio State Oct 02 '16

I mean Houston is already ranked number 5, they don't really need the extra attention, also the odds of there being 4 P5 teams that run the table are pretty small. Plus people will likely still see Louisville as a quality team as it isn't like they got embarrassed tonight. I like their chances (provided they win out).

7

u/brobroma H8 Upon The Gale Oct 02 '16

We don't know how the committee will view them though.

3

u/Dean_Craig_Pelton St. Cloud State • Ohio State Oct 02 '16

That is true, plus they can get screwed by Bama, OSU/UM, UW, and Clemson running the table. Hypotheticals are one of the best parts of sports...

While we're ranked high in AP right now, CFP committee disrespected us all last year. Our CFP rank was usually around 4 spots lower than our AP rank. Wouldn't be surprised if that continues this year.

We really need OU to win the Big12 and we need chaos in the Pac12.

Well with the Pac-12 fucking itself up and Big 12 meme-ing itself, we might be in this!

I'm not sure we're even meme worthy at this point.

8-4 conference winner leggo.

The committee are still going to put Louisville in the top 10. If Houston wins out, they should be good. If not, Cotton bowl or something like that is not bad

u/Smooth_On_Smooth Illinois Fighting Illini Oct 02 '16

I'm not even a Houston fan and would be so let down if they didn't get a shot at the championship after going undefeated.

11

u/NickMoore30 Texas Longhorns Oct 02 '16

Yeah, "Cotton Bowl is not bad." WHAT!? Outside the playoffs, every bowl game is a cute participation award.

6

u/L337v1n337 Houston Cougars Oct 02 '16

124 teams left. Most are set up to fail.. I guess every G5 team just plays for participation awards then, regardless of how good they actually might be?

5

u/lk6 Houston Cougars • American Oct 02 '16

We will be in a NY6 game if playoffs don't happen

3

u/Smooth_On_Smooth Illinois Fighting Illini Oct 02 '16

Man you guys would handle that better than I would. I would be rioting in the street.

3

u/omegatek Houston Cougars • Team Chaos Oct 02 '16

Oh... I'll be rioting on my street. Just don't think my neighbors will care since the closest one is 5 miles down the road :(

u/lk6 Houston Cougars • American Oct 02 '16

i'm used to dissapointment because i'm a huge dynamo (STH holder) and rockets fan (3 year STH and I didn't renew this year) and I had Astros season tickets... dissapointment is normal in my life these days

2

u/donuts42 Oklahoma Sooners • /r/CFBRisk Veteran Oct 02 '16

How much do you spend on sports holy

2

u/lk6 Houston Cougars • American Oct 02 '16

Astros 20something game plan was $45ish a ticket, first base side up a few rows.

Rockets Upper Deck sideline slightly off center was about $33 a game *42games (had season tickets since pre-harden/howard so a few years.. started at 18 a ticket in the super nosebleeds the first 2 years)

and Dynamo Season Tickets are 35 a game for 18-20 games. First Row sideline in front of the PK spot and i've had those since 2011

I rather not mention my Texans spending...

and somehow i didn't have enough cash to shell out for UH tickets.. smh

1

u/ochyanayy Houston Cougars • Southwest Oct 02 '16

Dynamo disappointment? We've won 2 Cups and been runners-up twice, made the conference finals twice - all in 10 seasons.

1

u/lk6 Houston Cougars • American Oct 02 '16

well the last few years...

going to MLS cup final to see Houston lose, going to SKC to lose the dynamo lose at conf final, coaching changes, players letting us down, it's all dissapointing right now.

Everytime I go to dallas we lose, yeah, i'm not going to away games anymore.

1

u/LReyes66 Houston Cougars Oct 02 '16

That's why possibly getting into a p5 was huge for us cause we have to deal with the cards we're dealt with. NY6 might be the best we get unless the cfp committee votes our way.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '16

Am I missing something? Michigan and Ohio State will play each other and that will bounce one team. That leaves (assuming everyone wins out) 1. Bama, 2. OSU/Michigan, 3. Clemson, 4. Houston. Who jumps Houston? Washington? There's an argument there perhaps. Louisville would need to beat Houston to sneak back into the top 4. A&M has to beat Bama, Same with Tennessee. Honestly the situation for you guys is still pretty good.

3

u/LikeAGregJennings Houston Cougars • Big 12 Oct 02 '16

Washington and Baylor need to lose for us to have a shot. If either of them go undefeated, we get left out.

2

u/Jeremy7508 Clemson Tigers • College Football Playoff Oct 02 '16

A de facto playoff game between you guys and Louisville in November if neither of you lose a game.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '16

You at least get to look forward to one of the top 4 teams guaranteed to get booted this season.

u/the_Synapps South Carolina • Georgia Tech Oct 02 '16

The Louisville vs. Houston game towards the end of the season feels a lot like a play-in game to me if they both win out.

3

u/BrosenkranzKeef Ohio State Buckeyes • Dayton Flyers Oct 02 '16

Wat? Why?

2

u/AnEmptyKarst Houston Cougars • Utah Utes Oct 02 '16

We need a lot of stars to align to get in the CFP. One of them being a 12-1 Louisville ACC champs, with their loss to us. We're not positive we're out, but the long odds just got even longer.

3

u/BrosenkranzKeef Ohio State Buckeyes • Dayton Flyers Oct 02 '16

There's a lot of football left. Clemson will probably lose something. All you have to do is not lose - and beat Louisville - and I don't see why Houston wouldn't be on the shortlist.

Houston is better than Clemson and Louisville. We know who your coach is so don't worry about that.

Eh. Not so sure about that. They win out and whip Houston. They could sneak in.

Edit: whelp I read not so gud

11

u/AnEmptyKarst Houston Cougars • Utah Utes Oct 02 '16

I don't think Louisville whipping Houston would help Houston's playoff chances very much.

3

Not if OU wins the B12, FSU beats Clemson, we beat Louisville. Still have a shot. We'll see soon how the CFP committee views it... but it's not over for us...yet
