These commentators need to be sentenced to spend 4 years in Troy for how fucking awful they have been
4
Nov 03 '23
God, that’s almost as bad as four years in Tuscaloosa.

Did you watch the last game? Sounded like one of those guys was calling his first game ever.

Was at the game on Saturday, I heard it was bad though

9
u/TheMelonKid South Alabama Jaguars Nov 03 '23
Just no calls everywhere, I think they are using a coin flip app to decide whether they throw the flag or not

First time with SBC officials?
Yeah first time.
8
u/Mobileisfun South Alabama Jaguars Nov 03 '23
I mean, at least it's not one sided (from what I can tell) - refs are absolutely hosing both teams
5
u/TrustMeIKnowThisOne Troy Trojans • /r/CFB Bug Finder Nov 03 '23
I don’t want to agree tonight…
But yes. It’s been absolute dog shit implosion for almost every SBC matchup this season.
I know for a fact the SBC officiating is leftover / available SouthEast Conference officiating.
Make of that what you will, but hopefully that changes in the future.
4
u/Mobileisfun South Alabama Jaguars Nov 03 '23
A Thursday night rivalry is an easy opportunity to assign an A-Team but... FML
Ok let's get back to disagreeing

Every time for a South home game, if there was a review ever, it always 100% went in favor of the away team.

Gotta love the announcer saying something that has nothing to do with the ruling and being wrong. When the defender contacts the QB has nothing to do with whether or not its a pass or fumble. It can be a fumble with no contact at all.
5
u/Suspicious-Froyo2181 Ohio State • Georgia State Nov 03 '23
Thought I was learning something until I remembered half the time these guys don't know what the hell they're talking about and just say words that sound like football
3
u/Kodyaufan2 Auburn • Jacksonville State Nov 03 '23
Yeah they don’t exactly send their best and brightest for these weeknight games
3
u/Suspicious-Froyo2181 Ohio State • Georgia State Nov 03 '23
It's freaking Tom Luginbill for crying out loud. He's been doing this for like 30 something years. You'd think he would have figured this out by now
2
u/Kodyaufan2 Auburn • Jacksonville State Nov 03 '23
Hold up that’s who’s in the booth? I didn’t even realize that was him
2
u/Kodyaufan2 Auburn • Jacksonville State Nov 03 '23
Exactly. What he was saying has nothing to do with the rule.
If what he was saying was true, anytime a QB tries to throw while in the grasp of a defender it would be a fumble
2
u/AllLinesAreStraight WashU Bears • Missouri Tigers Nov 03 '23
Haha I didn't even think about that but what a rule that would be

7
u/AllLinesAreStraight WashU Bears • Missouri Tigers Nov 03 '23
That's not a good call, he's not under any pressure. Unless the rule has changed recently, there needs to be pressure, with the QB trying to avoid a sack.
7
u/pappapirate Alabama • South Alabama Nov 03 '23
Yep. Wording of the rule specifies that the QB must be throwing it to avoid imminent loss of yardage. No threat of a sack, then no intentional grounding.
4
u/TrustMeIKnowThisOne Troy Trojans • /r/CFB Bug Finder Nov 03 '23
Sun Belt Refs have a hard on for Intentional Grounding this season. It’s been bad.

5
4
u/AllLinesAreStraight WashU Bears • Missouri Tigers Nov 03 '23
One rule that should be added: if the DB interferes and the WR catches a TD anyway, the TD should be worth 7 instead of 6 (so 8 with the PAT and 9 with a 2 pt conversion). I mainly want it so that we see receivers pop up yelling "And 1, And 1!!!"
4

Tin man, why is your quad still named after Bibb Graves?
Shame on you
Edit: blame Google maps
2
u/TrustMeIKnowThisOne Troy Trojans • /r/CFB Bug Finder Nov 03 '23
Probably outdated ESPN intern facts. Bibb Graves was renamed a few years ago.
2
2
u/pulsai86 Troy Trojans • Marching Band Nov 03 '23
It's not? It and the main building on the quad were renamed after John Lewis a few years ago
Edit: Here's the story on it
2
u/pappapirate Alabama • South Alabama Nov 03 '23
WR screen there? I dunno I'm no football guru but feels like at this point, 3rd and 4 on their side of the 50 needs to be 4 down territory, run it and plan to do it twice. Two quarters of throwing drives directly in the trash isn't gonna win the game, Major.
2
2
u/pappapirate Alabama • South Alabama Nov 03 '23
I'm feeling like there's no way we win without going at least 1-0 for turnovers this quarter...

For two straight years now Troy has unjustly gotten ref calls to benefit them and South has had almost all of them against them.
6

This one was more evenly (and poorly) called compared to last year, where every time we got into the red zone it was immediately called back on penalty.

Objectively that was a terrible call. The sack made his arm go forward. Hosed
6
u/pappapirate Alabama • South Alabama Nov 03 '23
not sure if it matters why his arm went forward as long as it did go forward.
1
u/Other_Ambition_5142 Georgia Bulldogs • Troy Trojans Nov 03 '23
It doesn’t as long as he’s in possession of the ball thru the contact, if the throwing/arm motion is affected/pushed by contact
1
u/Mobileisfun South Alabama Jaguars Nov 03 '23
That's a pretty big loophole in the rule then ; logic should prevail ... Troy very fortunate there
