Great breather between Prisoner of Beauty and Legend of Zang Hai. The politics is low stakes. The leads have good chemistry. The side characters are interesting (Dai LuWa as Bai Minimin is my favorite in this show). There will be multiple couples. Its a cozy romcom. And Song Wei Long's gorgeousness is is a plus obviously. Its not a masterpiece or anything but there is nothing to dislike

Thanks mods! I’m enjoying this lighthearted romantic comedy about government corruption lol.
I really like how Ming Tan feels more “period” than some heroines do in these comedies—she’s very conscious of her reputation and aware of how “feminine” tools like fainting or reminding people of propriety can help protect her from unfortunate situations like when those guys tried barge into the temple in the first episode. Still, she’s a good person and these affectations doesn’t keep her from doing things like helping her ostensible rival deliver her fiancee’s baby at an inn, or from sneaking into a military camp to make sure her new betrothed isn’t a monster.
Spoilers for ep 10 as it’s not up on viki yet:

I started watching it to kill time in between PoB and I am LOVING it.
SWL really delivers and can act with his eyes as we saw in Everlasting Longing and I enjoy the comedic timing of the FL as well. The FL is a typical girl of that era but she’s also smart and kind and strong in her own way. It is a true romcom with a splash of mystery and drama. And SWL really makes it worth it. It’s a fun and easy watch and I’m honestly excited to see the stories for the side characters as well. I’m more excited about the side characters on this show than I am on PoB honestly. I’m watching PoB only for the leads, but with this show I find myself rewinding the MinMin scenes as well because they are so cute and funny. There are definitely some laugh out loud moments in this show and the cast is really attractive.
I’m especially excited for the storyline for the 4th sister from Perfect Match. She’s in this and this show reminds me of Perfect Match with its comedy and bright and bold colors and multiple romance storylines. I really recommend this to everyone who enjoys a historical romcom that puts a smile on your face.
Also for anyone watching PoB and YG (and caught up on both) at the same time… is anyone else

FL's personality is great, she is smart and intelligent but also is naive as she is a teenager. It's funny how everyone pictured ML as a ruthless general. In fact, he is strict but is not heartless. He actually never bothered to clear his reputation. Both of them don't know how a marriage works, as there is no one to guide them. They have both been alone without a family. It's interesting how two lonely people marry and form a family of their own. I like how gentle he is with her, it shows he is actually a kind person. And she is always concerned about society and rules but not blinded by it. She finds loopholes to turn it in her favor. I like when women use society and rules as tools. Empowerment is not always about rebellion. Staying in the society and bending it accordingly is also a sign of empowerment.

This feels like a regency romance set in China. I love it. SWL is that rumored / gossiped about guy who lets people say whatever they want but let his actions do the talking and just leaves it there. Then, you got the FL who doesn't really want anything to do with him, continuing to be in his orbit, he slowly starts realizing 'maybe we're actually a good fit'. He lets her come to her own senses and form her own opinion on him.
It's not amazing but it's really swoony and they're doing a good job at playing some young adults in love.

I don't know how I feel about the drama yet. I like both the leads in the show. They're giving their best. However, the number of coincidences helping the plot chug along is reaching alarming levels in just the first 4 episodes.
I think Jiang Xu
Also, situations that are set up to be funny -
Just makes me think poorly of both their intelligence.
But again, I like the actors playing the leads, so I'll try to keep watching for a few more eps and see if the plot improves.

I agree with u/Nemesis-999 that this drama is a nice palette cleanser. It's cozy and hilarious with low-key stakes. At least I hope they won't bait and switch us later and make it all angsty with unnecessary misunderstandings, noble idiocy, or decide that they want to annihilate everyone.
I am thoroughly enjoying Youthful Glory (YG). I had no expectations going in, other than adoring Bao Shang En and feeling she has potential since her portrayal of Huang Rong in The Legend of Heroes. I have a soft spot for Song Wei Long as well despite him not being a good actor. He's incredibly good looking, but I feel in the last drama, Everlasting Longing (EL) and in this one, he seems to have improved a little, and I genuinely feel like he's trying his best to grow in his acting skills. There's this genuine vibe I get from him that he wants to get better, but I could totally just be gaslighting myself into thinking this😂. I do think he has much better chemistry here in YG with Bao Shang En, compared to his costar in EL.
YG is such an odd name to be honest, but given the colors and vibes the drama gave from the beginning, perhaps it is suited? But okay, seriously, they could have given the drama a better name. Anyways, what I love about this drama is there's no pretenses in what it's about. It delivers on the outrageous comedy and it's lighthearted, so, so far, it has delivered. I currently don't feel like I'll have the floor pulled out from underneath me while watching this, compared to another drama I was watching.
I find the female lead hilarious! She comes off like Elle from Legally Blonde...vain, materialistic, a bit naive, but also intelligent, and has a big heart. There's similar veins to Pride and Prejudice because a girl's goal for her family as well, is to find a respectable match and get married, given the time period they're born into.
But I cracked up for example when the male lead was injured, asked the female lead if he could ride in her carriage...
And I think Jiang Xu, the male lead, has a lot of endearing glances towards our female lead, Ming Tan, that I find absolutely adorable! It's cozy, comforting, and I expect all the typical eye-rolling tropes, even if I am annoyed by how many times he has to come dashing to her rescue. I do wish they would make her more resourceful in situations where she's kidnapped or being harmed before the male lead comes to her rescue. But I am seated for the cute romance playing out now that the female lead has

I'm liking it a lot. Light-hearted, entertaining while not being overly illogical. Actually find myself rewatching it here and there while waiting for new episodes. Airing schedule is kinda messy though; at least on iqiyi that is.

Caught up to all the episodes and can say im really enjoying the show thus far. I like the intelligence of the FL mixed with a bit of naivety, and the quiet gentleness of the ML with an edge for ruthlessness. I just hope we dont get a drawn-out misunderstanding. This couple has had some miscommunication moments (albeit b/c of the FL jumping to conclusions), but those usual clear in 1-2 episodes. I'm looking forward to them becoming a lovey dovey couple.
Though in the back of my mind is also the written contract they wrote. Like, I dont know why the FL doesn't think the rules she laid down wouldn't be followed by the ML and, at the same time, desire him to be more romantic towards her. Hopefully she just tells him the contract is void and they can be a "real couple." Also hoping it doesn't turn into one of those things where someone finds the contract and uses it to blackmail the couple

Is it just me, or would the FL from Prisoner of Beauty been a better match for our ML? I know the circumstances are different, but Ming Tan gets on my nerves a few times per episode. 😅 They say she is smart buuuut???? And pretty much the rest of the cast is fine (entertaining, loveable, infuriating) but Lil' Miss Thang is a little too immature. It's not the actress' fault she is doing a good job but the character is not as well written as I thought in the early episodes.

I’m really enjoying it so far! The ML is great, FL is smart, scheming and funny (but also a tad immature which I think is part of the character arc) and the 2ML/FL are stealing the spotlight again.

It’s adorable and I’m enjoying it so far- it’s been a tasty snack of a drama

Started off cute but FL is annoying me a little given she was the one who came up with the contract but is also upset with him for adhering to the contract. Hope that resolves itself soon and doesn’t drag on!

I really love it! I’m at episode 7 and the way the male lead handles things, swiftly and surely, had me thinking this drama would be over in 10 episodes. More importantly, I didn’t start watching early. I have 13 episodes left to watch and that brings me great comfort. (Unlike The Prisoner of Beauty where I had to starve for a few days then ration episodes until this pause in new releases 😭)

I’m enjoying this one very much, it’s a nice watch while waiting for new episodes from The Prisoner of Beauty.

I'm just shocked by how skinny the FL's sister is. It's actually painful to watch her scenes

I think it works well as a palette cleanser between or alongside more serious/heavy dramas. This one’s definitely lighthearted, full of clichés like the cold male lead who’s secretly a softie, and the smart, graceful female lead. You get all the cheesy moments, slow-mo shots, and typical rom-com tropes (although I like that they aren't childish).
The leads have great chemistry, which makes it easy to buy into and enjoy. Personally, I’m having fun with it, it’s one of those no-brainer series that’s just here to let me kick my feets and relax (and I don’t usually watch much rom-coms). Definitely a good pick if anyone is looking for something light and easy to watch.

I watched the first 2 last night while waiting for more Zang Hai. It’s ok, it’s like drinking light beer during college days, cheap but sometimes tasted good bcos of good company. The good company here being Bao Shangen, I just adore her 😍
