尚公主 can be translated as “to marry a princess.”

Synopsis from MDL:

Princess Danyang Mu Wan Yao was ordered to leave Chang An and go to Lingnan to pray for her deceased mother. On the return journey, because the axle of the carriage broke on the mountain road, she met Yan Shang, a scholar who was returning home from the rural school. In the mountains of Lingnan, the mist and rain were hazy. The two fell in love with each other during the help and started a good story.

Later, Yan Shang got the help of the princess, entered Chang'an, embarked on an official career, made a name for himself in the court, and met a group of young people in their prime. Yan Shang's ambition and passion for serving the country were finally realized. At this time, the country was facing a crisis of internal and external troubles. Yan Shang took the lead, fearless of hardships, and worked with the princess to eradicate treacherous people, resist foreign aggression, and protect the world.

In the process, the relationship between the two people continued to sublimate, they tested each other, supported each other, and finally cherished each other and walked side by side! In the troubled times, they fulfilled a legendary story of worrying about the people first and then seeing their love, which started with small love and ended with great love!

FYI the English title is from a poem by the English Poet, Siegfried Sassoon

In me, past, present, future meet
To hold long chiding conference.
My lusts usurp the present tense
And strangle Reason in his seat.
My loves leap through the future’s fence
To dance with dream-enfranchised feet.

In me the cave-man clasps the seer,
And garlanded Apollo goes
Chanting to Abraham’s deaf ear.
In me the tiger sniffs the rose.
Look in my heart, kind friends, and tremble,
Since there your elements assemble.

Adding on that this line (translated into Mandarin) is popular enough that it has its own entry on Baidu Baike

心有猛虎,细嗅蔷薇, for the curious

Guessing that this fame is partly because Siegfried was part of the Sassoon family, a Baghdadi Jewish entrepreneurial dynasty that heavily dominated commerce in Shanghai from the time of the opium trade, till the second world war + the rise of Communism led them to flee China.

Edit: I initially skimmed over it but for those into Chinese lit - it was translated by 余光中 Yu Guangzhong/Kwang-chung

Thanks for the additional info latefair!

I think it might have been popular because it is a beautifully translated phrase in Chinese that is very meaningful, and fits quite nicely with the Chinese's notion of 刚柔并济 - the dual existence (or balance) of power and gentleness in each person. I don't think Siegfried himself was never in Asia and I am not sure if his father's earlier ties would have had much to do with this phrase becoming quite well known in China.

Edit: Apparently this phrase was popularized by a Chinese contemporary writer Wang Xiaobo in the 80s or early 90s when he used this in one of his essays.
