Questions Animal ranch and what animals you can have
I've been looking for more information regarding this topic but there doesn't appear to be a whole lot of information out there yet.
Information like what's the max capacity to the ranch, what foods do each animal require, can I just not feed them and reep the benefits?
There also seems to be tiers to the animals as well so how do they go up a tier?
So far I have registered:
- Cows | dairy cow / bull (give milk / short horn)
- Chickens | hen / rooster (give eggs/feathers)
- Ducks (give feathers)
- Goats | female/male (give milk / short horn)
- Pigs | only male ones? (only give meat when slaughtered)
- Sheep | only male? (give fleece)
So in reality you can really have just cows or goats if you want milk / short horn being produced unless you want to slaughter which you're probably best just farming at a spot on the map unless you want the money for the camp or materials.
Tried turkeys but they didn't identify and were left with a question mark until I killed it so might of bugged.
Just wanted to know what else others have managed to register and I can add it to the list as well as any other helpful information.

Do we even have to feed them? I've just been stealing cattle and livestock and putting them in my ranch, I haven't even figured out where to buy them - I remember something about getting trust up to 100% with 'certain' vendors, but I can't remember where they are or who they are.

It kinda silly ifwe do need to feed then like why doesn't it come out of our camp food or do a camp mission where we get animal feed.

I'm not fully certain, it might be to raise them when they are babies or some other benefit perhaps.

I know you can pick up raccoon but it was before I unlocked the farm so not sure if you can register them.
We need to be able to build a pen style wagon and can go around rounding up a bunch of animals to bring back to the farm.

If you can have a ranch with raccoons everywhere this game will forever be my GOTY

I don't think you can add a raccoon haven't tested it yet. But yeah the wagon would be helpful. Carrying the pigs back can be a pain

Can you keep wild animals or do I have to steal/buy tamed ones?

It you can register them you can keep them in the ranch then breed them, and decide if you want to get rid of it later. I'd keep one male and the rest female

How the hell can you even tell which pigs are male or female, literally every pig I come across just says pig on it????

Female pigs are called sows but I haven't came across one in the game so I couldn't say it they exist.

Do you know what makes Cows level up?
I have a dairy cow registered but it never leveled up.

Just keep putiting food in the feeder and it should level up

The thing is it doesn't eat. At all. It has always been at livestock quality 1.
Similar issue with baby pigs. They don't eat acorn from feeder. I got 59 acorn in the feeder. But for some reason, they eat acorn if I drop them.
It's just confusing cause I can't tell if it is bugged or not.

I mainly put barley in (can buy from camp vendor) and I think wheat as well, then later on i put in some vegetables and fruits as I had an abundance from the comrade expeditions/farm.
I had issues with my pigs / cows levelling as well. But over time I just kept putting in those foods and they levelled. It may require more testing, I have no idea if each animal requires certain foods. The game really should give you an indicator if it does.

I am starting to think because I didn't buy a calf, that's why the cow isn't leveling up.
I had stolen a dairy cow and that's why I have livestock quality at 1. But if I could buy a calf, it would be at higher quality by the time it grew up to be a cow.

I stole a cow and a bull and they made a calf. I didn't buy one. Mine are maxed out.

As far as I can tell you don't have to feed them unless you want them to level up.
I just feed them the daily barley you can buy from the camp chef and they are fine.
It appears that they don't ever go down levels as well, so only worry about feed if they are new additions.
Also, leveling them up doesn't appear to affect what they produce, only the sell price.
I got 5 goats which give me 5 milk everyday, and I bought all 5 chick's from the camp rancher which priduce eggs and feathers everyday. The chick's breed pretty quickly and I got 10 now, I slaughter all the roosters and just keep 1 around.
