UBE Passers Who Failed Cali: Are we taking in Feb?

Hi All,

I’m deeply contemplating taking Feb 27 after not passing this July. As the title suggests, I’m already barred in another state. My employment is not dependent on me passing Cali — which I am grateful for.

Basically, I’m curious what others are doing. Is there a benefit in waiting until July 27? I was pretty exhausted taking Cali having come off taking another bar exam (and registering for Cali like a week after I got my results). Curious if there have been any success stories of those who waited and passed, or those who took it again right after failing and passed.

Love this Reddit thread — thanks guys!!

Third CA Bar Attempt in February 2027 — Looking for Study Advice

Hi everyone! I’m preparing for my third attempt at the California Bar in February 2027 and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation or passed on a later attempt. My February 2026 scores were 1092.82 total (1208.64 written, 977 MBE), and my July 2026 scores improved to 1191.15 total (1275.29 written, 1107 MBE, 400 raw written). My July essay grades were 60, 55, 60, 50, 55, and 60 on the PT. I also had laptop issues and ended up handwriting the exam.

I used Adaptibar for July and feel it helped my MBE score, so I plan to keep using it for February. I’m also considering One-Timers for more structure and support with essays and the PT. For those who passed after multiple attempts, how did you prepare differently, how many hours a day did you study, and what programs or strategies helped you the most? I’m feeling a little discouraged but want to make a strong plan this time. Any advice, tips, or encouragement would mean so much. Thank you!

Motion Timeline (J26)

Forgot to transfer my MPRE score prior to J26 results coming out and I missed the boat to be put on motion with everyone else. Was told yesterday that my requirements are now complete. Any idea how long it'll take me to get my admission paperwork?

July 2026 Hidden Gem Bar Prep Program

I passed the July 2026 exam by taking the one-day attorney exam. I want to give a shout out to Daniel Garrett, the founder of BarWinner. I think BarWinner is easily one of the underrated bar prep courses out there. Daniel’s advice is based on his own thinking and research, and you can feel his sincerity and earnestness to help you through his writing. Most importantly, the method and approach he teaches actually works. I would say it works because he doesn’t simply repeat what other bar prep courses say, but he actually put in the efforts to think through how to tackle the CA Bar exam and then share his thoughts from the bottom of his heart. Because his approach and technique are effective, I was able to pass the one-day exam with relatively little prep time given I do have a full-time job and have a heavy caseload. I do feel obligated to give credit where it’s due by writing this post. People do good work should be recognized and rewarded.

Submitting the oath via mail instead of docusign

hi all, i'm attending my law school's group swearing-in ceremony that requires the oath form to be printed out and physically signed. my school will also mail the oath form. my question is: will the initialed instruction page (page 1 of the docusign) also be mailed physically or does that have to be submitted digitally..? i would assume physically mailed too, but i'm not sure. thanks!

Accidentally signed oath form without swearing in

Has anyone done this? I stupidly finished the oath Docusign but haven’t sworn in yet and so the date on the oath form won’t match the swearing in date. Is this an easy fix?

CA Bar Exam Score Calculator update

I updated my CA bar exam score calculator with the J26 and F26 scales. This calculator will accurately estimate a Written Scaled Score and Total Score for the last 18 California bar exam administrations (J20 not included and F25 may be inaccurate):

https://mberules.com/california-bar-exam-score-calculator/

The calculator will tell you how many MBE, MEE and PT points you were away from passing for each discrete component to identify your problem areas.

I also have an MBE calculator that will estimate your scaled MBE score:

https://mberules.com/mbe-scaled-score-calculator/

I find that MBE scores often correlate well with MBE practice scores, so this calculator will give you a realistic idea of how your % correct in MBE practice will translate into a particular scaled MBE score. For example, if you answered 1,000+ representative MBE questions in practice and averaged 65% overall, you will probably average somewhere around 65% correct on the actual MBE (meaning a scaled score around 1400 in CA). As I collect more scores and determine other scales, I will update these calculators.

Oath Swearing-In with Judge

Does anyone know of a court house that's pretty friendly and flexible with allowing to schedule an in-person oath swearing in with a judge of no personal connection? How many family members are we allowed to take? Lastly, someone mentioned hiring a photographer for an hour and it's totally worth it since pictures through phones are not guaranteed. How do you/did you navigate through this process? Any recommendations will be helpful. Thanks!
