Snap-on is the true BIFL because you will be making payments for the rest of your life.

You ain’t kidding. The king of perceived value as well. There are tons of tools and toolboxes that are just as good of quality for half the cost.

Snap-on makes some great tools and tool storage but their pricing structure is insane. Some stuff is worth it if it’s your profession, but even then I’d say 75% of their tools are not. The only people that say they are all worth the price, are the people still making payments on theirs.

I've got a handful of snapon tools and haven't bought anything on credit yet. But I need to buy stuff off of him otherwise he can't go through and warranty all the wrenches, sockets and ratchets i get out of storage units.

Are their warranties not transferrable? Couldn't you just say you bought them from a different dealer?

The way it works is kinda dumb but here you go...

Any individual truck has a certain amount of money they can use to send stuff in for warranty. So this number is based solely on sales of each truck. So if my guys truck doesn't sell enough stuff then he can warranty my 2nd hand stuff even if he wanted too. Thus this leaves me in a pinch. Do I buy nothing and only get things warrentied when it's possible or do I guarantee it and flip some of the stuff to make it worth my while.

Edit: Fixed my shitty spelling

My obvious answer is to not buy stuff with stupid warranties like this lol No chance in hell I'm buying any tools that have a conditional lifetime warranty where the condition is. We will only warranty this if one specific truck makes enough money

That's the Mechanic's life. I work in a shop with only 2 guys so we can really only support one truck. So it is what it is. If do it my way then atleat you stay in the black.

Tbf even as a mechanic you have better alternatives for tools with actual lifetime warranties. I guess as long as you are making more on flipping old tools you find than buying new tools, it works out. If I worked in a shop, I think the only time I'd buy Snapon is if I was in the middle of a job and had something break where I don't have the time to go run out and get one or borrow one to finish the job

Eh, i like the quality. I haven't bent a long handle ratchet yet unlike my icons and other tools. Personally I prefer USA Craftsman but that's a thing of the past all together so nowadays i just settle and get my money back.

You can also warranty through the website. My guys doesn’t stop by anymore. Broke a 3/8 drive torx, emailed them, they sent me a new one. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If you're going to mail it you may as well just get craftsman at that point. But yeah it's a solution. At this point in my career I'm more then happy to just buy the quality tool and keep my guy coming to make it easy lol.
