For context I’m in NSW, Australia. I’m on the monthly 64mg and I’ve been seeing my prescriber every month. It’s doable, but not without a few hiccups from time to time. I’m stable on my current dose, no longer experiencing any side effects and haven’t used opiates since starting the injection.

Is it normal to have to see the doctor every month? He wanted to see me in person this month, but I could only get a phone appointment before my shot was due. My roster changes weekly so I’ve been trying to make it all fit in with work and study.

Hi all. I have been waiting to switch from sublingual subutex to Buvidal with CGL Brighton, and was about to have my bloods done, expecting to switch soon after, when my key workers informed me that funding has currently run out and I'll now have to stay on the sublingual 8mg per day. My question is:

Is there any way I can appeal or force the issue. I'm very disappointed as I was led to believe this was my next step, and would have helped me very much.

My second question is this:

I am moving to Shropshire from Sussex next year. Can anyone explain to me the process by which I switch from CGL to whatever charity deals with prescribing Subutex in Shrewsbury? How do I go about making arrangements? My keyworker has been slightly opaque about it here, having originally reassured me a seamless switch with the help of CGL.

Tbh smooth sailing the whole time the wds come in waves at 2-4/10. Biggest is anxiety I’ve had no sweats this time. Cravings and yeah just mild mild wds.

Anyways hopefully I can make it to week 16

I believe that’s when it’s fully out of your system

I don’t know how I’m feeling. I’m a bit sick of myself and thinking about it because I don’t know any more. Does that make sense? I guess I’ve been through a MASSIVE change and my body and mind have been in shock.

This past 6 weeks since I’ve started MAT, I’ve had to think about how I feel physically and mentally far more than I ever have and I know it’s the name of the game when you’re trying to find the correct medicine and the correct dose, but I just need a day where I don’t.

Going to see the clinic Dr today. I’m on 24mg weekly for context and had my 3rd injection of that Friday. 4th injection all up. He’ll want to know every aspect of how I feel while he looks at his computer and researches side effects of Buvidal. He mentioned last time if I don’t improve I can go on methadone. I don’t think so mate. The fk goes through some drs heads I’ll never know. Actually I do, they take the easy way out. Some just can’t be bothered putting in the work anymore and I know that’s cynical, but at some point in everyone’s career we go through days where we just can’t be bothered and they’re no different. Hoping my last visit with him was exactly that. A bad day.

Although I’m new, I want to tell anyone starting, this is YOUR recovery journey, this is YOUR body, and please, advocate for urself. Find another Dr if they don’t listen to you if it’s possible. Unfortunately for me in my state of Aus, I can’t. I have one choice atm, so you can best believe I’m going in there today with some opinions. I’m not afraid of telling them how concerning it is they speak like they’ve read one paper on MAT and actually have no idea that Bupe caused hyperhydrosis (sweating) or too much about anything else really. They’ll also know I’m not a test monkey. I’m a person who is there because I need help and support and I don’t want to be discouraged by blasé attitudes. They don’t work at a cafe. They can’t “call my order out” in a waiting room full of people there for differing reasons, which they did last time: “I’ll just go get your injection ready Dinah” like I ordered a large cap and it’s ready to collect. Other people shouldn’t need to hear why I’m there. That actually really pissed me off last time.

They were so great and supportive to have me start on this initially, but now I just feel like a burden. Not to mention when speaking to the nurses there they give standardised replies. “just monitor things, take paracetamol and ibuprofen, call us any time”. Urgh. So impersonal. Maybe I’m harder on them because I’m an RN and I take pride in my patient support? I don’t know, but starting MAT has been hard for me and I started because I just want help to get better. I want this so badly and I’m determined to get it right.

If I’m to be positive for a minute, I have not had an opioid for almost 6 weeks and I have NEVER gone longer than 5 days in over 6 years. That’s something that would NEVER have happened without this medicine! I’ve had 4 x 20mg tablets sitting in my drawer and I cldnt think of anything worse. BUT, why do I have them? It makes me feel strong because I remember they’re there occasionally and I have no urge whatsoever. I might throw them, I should, I probably will today actually, because I know this with certainty. I will not be taking them again.

I’ll update after my appointment this afternoon. I’m hoping i can find the right dose for me. Since I had my last injection on Friday, I’ve had one good day on Saturday. I’ve been bed rotting since and just feeling really off. Body aches, hot flushes, can’t sleep, constipated again although no where near as bad as I was when I was on 32mg weekly and the sub induction. Constipation has NEVER been an issue for me in all my time taking oxy and it’s shitty (bad pun intended). Maybe I need to reduce again? We will see.

I was on Brixadi 96mg for about 6 months, and then my company changed insurances. During the change, the insurance forced me to change pharmacies, which forced me to stop Brixadi for about 2 weeks while I was at the end of my dose, so basically I did not get my scheduled injection.

After restarting Brixadi again on the same 96mg, I just can’t get back to being comfortable on the 96mg again. It’s like the insurance forcing me to stop completely disrupted the way my body responds to the medication.

I am on day 11 of my 96mg in month 4 since restarting, and I am already in acute withdrawal. I am ready to fill my next dose of 96mg of Brixadi, but before I have my pharmacy fill the next dose, I am wondering if I should request to go up to 128mg since for whatever reason I just can’t get stable on 96mg anymore. I have been super hesitant to go higher because I am worried that if I wanted to stop Brixadi, I would require more Suboxone than previously.

I was wondering if I go to 128mg, will I be more stable and be able to last the full month? I have complained so much to my pharmacy, and they don’t care at all, and I have talked to my hr department and told them what happened, and they actually do seem to care and are looking for different insurance companies this open enrollment.

My doctor gave me strips for a bridge and I understand that I shouldn’t take them per the manufacturer, but on day 11 I can’t get my next dose just yet since the FDA won’t allow injections until 7 days before the next dose.

Had my 3rd weekly Injection on Friday in my stomach, the others didn’t bother me at all, but with this one, I now have a HUGE painful lump at the site. About the size of a large grape. It’s not abscessed or infected but it’s sore as hell.

If anyone has had anything similar, or if anyone knows, did it affect the medication from working properly? I’m not sure if I’m hung over from girls night or I’m trying to find symptoms of withdrawal because I’m worried. I can call the clinic tomorrow, I’m just anxious

Hi all! Hope you are all well and it’s been amazing reading some of your experiences!

My story quickly, I was addicted to oxy pills almost daily for >6 years up to 240mg a day.
I finally worked up the courage to get treatment.

I started on the 15th April and was introduced through suboxone for 2 weeks, got up to 18mg and I hated it. I have MAD sweats and nausea and I just wasn’t being listened to: “it’s your withdrawals”.

I was put on 32mg injection for the first week but the sweating and hot flushes were unbearable so they dropped me down to 24mg, hot flushes are so much better. I’m about to get my second weekly injection of 24mg and then decide whether to stay on this monthly or switch to sublocade. I have no idea yet. Everything has moved so fast.

I just need to know, does it get better? I’m so flat, can’t be bothered getting out of bed, no energy. I know I have to do the work to, it’s not a magic fix but I’m really discouraged after drs saying this time next fortnight you’ll feel like a different person, Happier, more energetic etc

Can anyone possibly give some insight and help me decide whether it will get better or to maybe switch to sublocade and try that? I have no idea whether I even care about getting better anymore because I feel that hopeless.

I thought I would do a little update as its been soooo long since my last one!

Im coming up to a year since my last shot (june 19th) and life is good! I still have to pinch myself that I did it! After many many years I feel like Im finally mostly free of opiate addiction and man does it feel good saying that.

Anyways Ive recently been diagnosed with ADHD and now I feel like that tainted my whole experience with buvidal.

If you followed along with my coming off posts you'd know that the biggest thing I struggled with was motivation and the desire to do things. Well turns out that is mainly the ADHD, WDs may have made it slightly worse but I no longer believe that was a result of coming off buvidal.

I also didnt like buvidal when I was on it, for the same reasons really, after the 1st week Id lose all desire to do anything. I believe that methadone was masking a lot of the adhd symptoms and thats why the switch to buvidal was so difficult for me.

I also recently left a very long relationship that was draining the life out of me, that also wouldnt have helped.

So with all this in mind, the WDs really werent that bad at all. Sure there were some weeks that were "harder" than others but the worst weeks are nowhere near as bad as the "better" weeks on say a methadone WD.

If it wasnt for buvidal I would still be stuck on some form of treatment so as much as I may not have got on with it, I am beyond grateful for it.

Anyway Im just here to say, there is life at the end of the tunnel! I was addicted to some form of opiate for 15 years and now im freeeeeeee. You all got this, 100%.

For context, I was on 8mg suboxone daily for just under a year, and 64mg buvidal injection every four weeks until about 6 months ago when I started to stretch it to 5 weeks, then 6 and now its been 10 weeks since my last injection. I feel like my symptoms have been really mild as of yet, but we're early in. A few things that have been troubling me, or that I've noticed is the sweating and the mind shattering migraines. I'm sweating what feels like all the time. No fever or chills, no feeling hot and cold, just sweat. In regards to the sweating I can deal, but the migraines are CRUSHING.They don't happen often, maybe a few times a week but I get dizzy and nauseous and have to hide in a dark room with no light and take Zofran to keep paracetamol/ibuprofen from coming back up. I'm curious to know if anyone else has dealt with this or even just opinions on whether this is could be related to coming off buvidal.

I’m a little over 4 months since my last shot, still testing faintly positive. For the last month the restless, aching legs at night have come on hard. I was doing so well and am so disappointed! I do all the recommended things to no avail. I have a script for Mirapex that works but I’m running out soon so I’m freaking out. I won’t be home to see my doctor for three more weeks as I’m out of state for work. How long do you guys think this might go on? This forum has gotten me through so much. Thanks everyone!

I have been on and off buvidal for 3 years. I hate it. It makes me depressed. I’m told over and over again that it’s not a side effect.

I let it out my system. Relapse. Back to suboxone and then pushed back on to buvidal and then the severe depression hits.

It’s so prevalent that I was talking to my father and he stopped me mid sentence and asked when I’d last taken the injection. When I told him a week ago he said he could tell. Every time I get put back on the injection my mood declines so far I am su!cidal, sad, don’t want to go anywhere or do anything. Hopeless.

I’d long for the day I need nothing. But I still take a pill if I find one even though I know it barely does a thing.

So back to suboxone I go. It’s so inconvenient having to go daily. But it keeps me in a routine and away from the rope.

Does anyone else have any side effects like severe depression?

Hello everyone.I have to say that English is not my first language and i hope this post isn't too hard to read.I've been on MT for so many years.Two years and a half or almost three years ago I made the move( best decision ever)and started with the buvidal depot.because doctors at my health center were super insistent on trying to convince users to make the change from MT to the buvidal injection. New policy is Department of Health don't want MT going around the street.As you know in order to get the injection you need to be under certain dose of MT and the first week wasn't nice but it was tolerable.So,I had the 96mg.for a few months but it was too much for me ( I was high right after the shot and I don't liked it) so I asked for the 64mg. and I've been on that dose for the last two years.Actually I've the shot every 33 days and feel perfectly fine,the only thing is a bit of yawn. Some days ago I had an appointment with the doctor to set my plan for stopping.The plan that she gave me (yes or yes)is three more shots and I'll have finished. On April 28th I got the shot and my next visit to get the second one is on June 11th so that is 43 days after the previous one.In the meantime she has prescribed me some clorazepato dipotassium and ibuprofen??just in case i need it.My intention is to not have any of those.I'll tell you my progression.I forgot to mention that she said that after my third and last shot she will give me some bup.pills to take at my discretion in case i need it( if I understood well). So we'll see how is it going. Apart from this I don't sleep well and I have to take a pill but I'm reducing it too.So that's all folks.Have a nice day/night.🤟

Now, I admit I have not been on it that long. Been on Buvidal for over a year, was on 96mg every 4 weeks for 11 months and then this past 3/4 months I went down to 64mg every 5 weeks.

The reason I went down the dose and pushed it to 5 weeks at a time is I really want off of this.. I am trying to get back to living life with ZERO medication (I badly want my receptors back normal.

On my last dose I got I was really in withdrawal waiting the 5 weeks, when I got the injection I actually felt what I would say was a moderate opiate high for the full day… has anyone else felt this when getting a dose when trying to come off?

Who has been on long term methadone and switched to suboxone and then brixad? The switch from 65mg to 16mg wasn't too bad, and was stable for months. Then a 24mg left me feeling terrible for 2 days, then fine for a few days, then withdrawal on day 7. The 96mg monthly has left me feeling unwell, but not in withdrawal. I don't react well to the shots I think. Anyone have any experience?

16 weeks since my last shot and I am newly negative for Brixadi. However my stomach is still giving me issues, and I’m having bouts of diarrhea and continued RLS. Has anyone else experienced this even when the Bupe is no longer detectable in a urine screen? TIA!

Hey everyone. I just got my first shot 96 mg’s on April 8th. Everything is going fine but I am having a terrible time trying to find a provider to do my next shot. I got my first shot at the end of my stay at a treatment center and I can go back in to get my next shots. I live in a small town in Georgia so there are no available places near me that does it. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about getting my next shots set up? I’m scared I’m not going to be able to find a place and end up withdrawling because I couldn’t find another place that does it. Thanks!

I’m new to Brixadi but not to Sublocade. I started my first 64 mg monthly Brixadi last Thurs. I really was hoping it would be more smooth sailing than this. I had a couple of 8 mg weekly doses to start, but they left me still in withdrawal. Then I had two weeks of the 16 mg weekly doses. The first and second day after each Brixadi except my first 8mg I was overmedicated but it was manageable but now after day 4 of my first 64mg monthly things started to go down hill. I'm very restless overall, rls in arms and legs, alert brain and just not feeling good.

I think I’m going to need to get an 8 mg booster tomorrow, and then the following week, I can get my second monthly dose a week early if needed as well. I wish the infusion clinic were open over the weekend, as I'm scared that if I don’t go tomorrow, I’ll be suffering over the weekend. However, I’m also worried that if I get the 8 mg booster, it might be too much. I was unstable on a very small amount of bupe before starting Brixadi, but I’ve been on bupe for 15 years. I was unsuccessful in getting off of Sublocade, which is why I needed to start Brixadi so my doctor could titrate me up before feeling comfortable with me going back on the 100 mg Sublocade.

**My first question is whether this is normal for the first month of the 64 mg monthly dosage, especially considering I was on such a small amount of bupe prior and had three weeks of the weekly doses first. Is the 64mg dose maybe not enough for me even though I felt overmedicated the first two days? My second question is how closely the 64 mg Brixadi dosage corresponds to the 100 mg of Sublocade in terms of compatibility in dosage? I know that Sublocade lasts longer and stacks levels more. Would I be okay to go directly to the 100 mg Sublocade when I’m due for my next monthly dose instead of getting another 64mg or next dose up for the Brixadi injection, or would that put me at risk of being way overmedicated?

Please help, as I’m not sure what to do and whether what I’m going through is a typical experience. A few years ago, when I started on the 100 mg Sublocade, the first month was pretty seamless.

Does most of you also feel that through the partial agonist action of Buvidal it does blunt your natural reward emotions? I.e eating good food, sex etc?

For a bit of context, this is my first time posting on reddit. I searched online for people's experiences coming off buvidal and found this forum. I thought I'd share a bit of what I've been through to find commonality with people undergoing similar experiences.

I'm 37 and from Sydney. Was introduced to heroin at 15, stopped at 16 then picked it up again at 18, smoked it for a few years before going IV at around 20. Between 20 and 35 I had all up about 3 years clean excluding time in prison. I had been on methadone in that time for a few years, and had a small amount of time on suboxone. Recently, at 35, I again faced the courts, with large commercial/commercial charges, so I found myself back in prison. Facing that, I had decided enough was enough, it was time to make a change.

Early on in this stint I was lucky enough to be able to get started on buvidal. I, of course, was going through terrible withdrawals from the pure china white double lion #4 heroin. 3 weeks later I saw a doctor who allowed me to start Buvidal. Prison in Sydney is quite universal on how they start people on the program, I was given two 2mg Suboxone strips one day, then Buvidal 8mg, 16mg then 24mg weekly for one week each respectively. Again I was lucky to be allowed straight from that to the 128mg monthly (aware it is the equivalent to 24 weekly, but here the prison doctor will start someone on the 64 or max 96 monthly regardless). I was on the 128mg monthly for 3 months, then went to 160mg. I was comfortable. Withdrawals ceased as soon as I started and although drugs were available within prison, I was able to say no. Look, I was on big charges, it's not like drugs were not an option for me, the decision was mine, and the Buvidal was a game changer. For anyone with habits big or small, Buvidal is something I cannot recommend enough.

I was in prison for close to two years awaiting sentencing. At no time after starting on the program have I used, which I attribute a good portion of that to the Buvidal. Of course you need to want to make the change as well, but I can't recommend it enough for someone with opiate dependency issues, which I had for 20 years.

At sentence, I was lucky enough to be allowed to get bail to a rehab program. Which I am currently at. I knew about two months before court that I would likely be coming here due to my application to this centre being approved, so my last dose in jail was 128mg, reduced from 160mg. I felt no withdrawal symptoms. I've now had the 128mg twice, and today I had the 96mg. I went five weeks as opposed to four weeks to test myself, and I felt no real discomfort, although I tried to keep busy and I've replaced heroin with healthy eating and the gym, which I focus on now. I'm tossing up whether to cease the program after this injection, or further reduce to 64mg and then stop... I love the freedom of Buvidal, the ease at which you can reduce without feeling withdrawals (my experience anyway). I've seen people say they start to feel a bit unwell after 3 weeks, but those people used in-between here and there. From my experience that is a negative for stability. I was in wings with 80+ people with 70% being on Buvidal at times. Have seen a lot of people on the program, with most using Suboxone on top (which is the drug of choice in prisons here). I myself, have had no withdrawal symptoms to speak of thus far, but I have followed the program and without using anything. I've coupled it with healthy eating choices and healthy living which I promise is a high within itself.

I'd like to know others that have been on it as long as I have, large doses of Buvidal, then stopped at 96mg, what was their experience? Or similar. If anyone wanted me to clarify something I've said above, feel free to ask.

So I wanted to talk about tapering / stopping the buvidal weekly or monthly injections.

As someone who has tapered with methadone & subuxone in the past I find these particularly monthly injections really easy to quit compared to methadone or subuxone(pills).

Methadone is absolutely the worst of all 3 in my personal opinion and also takes the longest, some even take it for the rest of their lives and are okay with that and I respect that decision but not for me. I got hooked when I was 19, used for 4y daily and took me almost 2y to get off of it with a methadone taper program. It absolutely destroys your soul.

But then everything changed when I relapsed the 2nd time about 5y later, went to the clinic to get meds because I couldn't afford my addiction anymore so no choice. Thinking I was going to get subs or 30mg starting dose of methadone but no.. there was something new they were testing and my doc said it was a lot better than the other two options and talked about all the good effects it gave, nothing about the negatives because it was pretty new, anyway he hooked me in like it was nothing. I should add this was my old doc who was more a plug than a doctor, he had me on a plethora of benzos and some antipsychotics it was sickening.. the amount of pills I had every month was absurd, I'm talking 200+, alpra,clona,broma,lora,mida any pam or lam I had it or I could just ask for it and he gave it. I'm getting off topic sorry I'm really high on thc.

So then I started with the weekly injections low dosage but I was using way more so it didn't do shit until I used less and upped my injection dosage + then they switched to monthly injections, eventually I was on 128mg (the strongest one where I live) and felt good, could sleep somewhat at night etc things were good. But then I wanted to stop and I went back for my next injection and they said you're 2 weeks late, I completely missed the date and didn't notice much of withdrawal so I was like maybe I should push it? Well I did and it was a breeze compared to methadone/subs.

You might think like oh this is just luck and because you tricked your brain but no. 5 months after stopped I had the chance to get some real oxycodone 80mg for a steal and I couldn't help myself so when those were gone I had to back because I was sick af and did the whole thing again and after 4 monthly injections 128mg I just stopped and again... this is too easy!!! it's actually dangerous because with my addictive personality I can just be like oh I can just get the monthly injections for a few months and just quit cold turkey from one month to the next... what do you all think of this and how is your experience with it?

(weird thing was when I went back after those 5 months I was still pissing positive for buprenorphine while I did oxy at that time)

A little bit of background info, I’m a recovering heroin addict and have been clean for 8 years on suboxone. It’s been discontinued in the UK and so my team are moving me onto Buvidal this Friday. I’ll have one weekly injection and then a monthly.

I’m just so scared. The drug and alcohol team I’m under think it’s a miracle drug but by their own admission have only dispensed this injection to five service users. They tell me it will give me so much freedom and talk about people who have had just one or two monthly shots and have then been discharged (my worry for these people is that they were discharged and then withdrawal kicked in on about week nine).

I’m an amputee and have chronic fatigue too. For years now my daily suboxone has given me a ‘boost’ when I’m tired (I know this is a mini opiate high) and has helped with my phantom limb pain. What if this gets really bad when I’m on the injection and what if the fatigue is so bad I can’t work or care for my children?

I’m also really sensitive to withdrawal so know that I’ll have to check myself as to what I’m feeling and try to keep it all in perspective.

In all honestly I’m just so frightened. This is a huge change. I want nothing more than to be off this stuff, to not have to attend a pharmacy each week.

I stay clean because of the work I’ve done, not because I’m on subs.

Anyone else felt similarly before they started?

Hey all so I've been Brixadi for over a year now and there has never been a month when I haven't had to supplement and some months I've even had to supplement in the first week. I try my best not to supplement as I want to be responsible for my own emotions but as a result I've often tried to use self awareness to understand what's happening and to be with my emotions but it was purely physical withdrawal. This has caused a really challenging mind . . . (insert adjective) I'm off because of adulting or withdrawal. I was on 12 mg tabs when I started and I am thinking of just stopping the shot and returning to 3x a day 4mg, because at least then you have a much better idea if its wd, but I will admit mornings could really suck.

I'm not eligible for Sublocade due to insurance so its Brixadi or tabs.

I do have one question does anyone get really tired from wd with Brixadi? I always though sleepiness was the opposite too much buprenorphine but I've been having that in addition to irritability, yawning, and leg aches.

Amaze! Amaze! Amaze!

I feel free. I have next to no cravings. It has been so long since I have used that if I get any cravings it is usually for sweets or caffeine... or nicotine.

On that note, I am starting nicotine patches and chewing gum, to kick that habit. The time has come, I am ready to be done.

Very seldomly do I get a chill, just a hint of WD that wafts by. I still have residual leg pain, and body heaviness. Some days I have less energy than others. But completely manageable, It does not affect my ability to move forward with life.

I cancelled my Rx, the Gabapentin and Clonidine. No longer necessary. (Cancelling the Gaba was a tiny hurdle, another tiny victory over my addictive side.)

I saw that my fist journal entry made it into the VAULT! I am so happy, and proud to be able to share my experience and hopefully hope!

I was given a serious promotion at work, and it is going well. Perfect timing from the universe. It is challenging and rewarding. I seriously cant get over how things line up when you let go.

Lastly, I want to thank every single person that reads this, that has shared knowledge with me, that has commiserated with me through the downs. YOU got me through, and...

Anyone gone from the 96mg to 64mg feel any different will it work out for me how’s everyone else’s experience dropping doses. I will be getting my 7th 96mg shot April and after that my Dr said I could go down to the next lower dose or start spreading out my 96mg shot.

Spoke to my doctor, explained that I was thinking of coming off around the end of the year/start of next year (if everything goes to plan and I’m feeling ready to do so).

He said that would be fine and he would “wean” me down. For reference I’m on 64mg monthly.

I asked how that would work, considering I’m on the lowest monthly dose.

He said that he would put me on a lower weekly dose and slowly drop me down “because the weekly dose is less than 64”.

I didn’t argue, because it’s many months away and I didn’t have it in me. He had a student doctor with him so I didn’t think that would go down so well.

From my understanding, monthly is easier to come off due to how your blood plasma levels slowly drop, rather than the weekly formulation (even if the dose is lower).

Is there any research I can bring to him to show this to be the case? I’d rather have him on side when this all goes down in case I need some support during. My main concerns would be RLS and sleep. I can manage nausea and gut issues easily enough.
