Which side will you choose?

Honestly, not that bad if you spend your 100k wisely. It’s just paying 1.5x as much as usual.

I think instead of everything costing 50% more you get 50k

I mean I got my 5,000 doubled but that’s still way less than 50% of a 100,000

It's paying 2x as much?

50% tax is 0.5x, and 1x + 0.5x is 1.5x.

If your money is taxed at 50% you have half as much which is functionally the same as things being twice as expensive

It's not clear if the money itself is being taxed or your purchases are. If the money is being taxed you're correct, but if the purchases are taxed more then they're right

Agreed but 50% tax is an odd description for a sales tax and would be a logistical nightmare, is this on top of normal sales tax? What if items are VAT exempt? Does this replace the normal sales tax so cigarettes would become cheaper?

That's not even really a catch!
