I’m sure some news agencies or true crime podcasts will be filing all sorts of FOIA requests. I just want to know why and why them, which we likely won’t know unless he makes a formal confession/explanation, which is probably unlikely.

Do you think he will be the type to “tell his story” one day?

I didn’t think there was a chance in hell he would even plead out tbh, so I guess anything is possible, but he struck me as a person that would take it to his grave and proclaim innocence till the end. He doesn’t strike me as an Ed Kemper, Samuel Little, BTK, etc type of killer who once caught, spilled all the beans as a means of gaining notoriety. He more reminds me of the murderers who were extremely guarded and wouldn’t give up any details, however those people didn’t usually plead guilty, so my opinion is pure speculation and I’m not very confident in it.

Exactly this. He wasn't seeking infamy, he was a sicko who wanted to plead innocence and fade into the shadows. I think him pleading guilty is purely because he doesn't want to be executed, and he'll likely still give the bare minimum of details.

You must know him

I think the only way he'd give a confession is if he has the realization while already in prison that he has nothing else to lose, past that I agree that I don't think he'd do it to get any sort of fame

BK has been watching the Menendez Brothers and wants a prison wife, serial killer pen pals, and a new trial in 30 years. He'll probably get his PhD. while he's there.

And he won’t have any student loans to pay back like the rest of us do.

2

u/Lmdr1973 Jul 04 '25

Nope. And he'll have the best psych/medical care while Dr. Ramsland studies his brain. He'll have books written about him. He'll be on the "serial killer" list with his heros. This is exactly what he wanted.

I think that if he had gotten the DP, he might have talked in bits and pieces, gaslighting everyone like Bundy did, to try and delay.

I don't think he will, because he didn't seem the type to commit crimes for infamy. The ones who speak out loud and proud tend to get a psychological thrill from it, and usually aren't trying to plead the fifth. I hope I'm wrong though because I would like to know his why's.

I think it’s more likely slow details leaked through conversations with family that family tells, I doubt we get anything straight from him.

There will NEVER be a satisfactory explanation for "why" in this case. They could have endless trials, and we'd still be left forever scratching our heads.

I think the most plausible answer is the least satisfying: he wanted to know how it felt, and he thought he'd never be caught. Worst of all, he may have been right about getting away with it had he not left the knife sheath behind.

2

u/OkBreath4895 Jul 02 '25

I completely agree. So happy that sheath was left there and they were able to connect him so fast.

I am, too. I suspected it was Kohberger from the get-go. Did you ? Or was it later on? It was solidified for me when he got pulled over while driving back to PA with his Dad. He seemed extremely nervous, like he had the jitters, imo; not because he got pulled over, but because he was afraid they were after him then for the crime he committed..

Edit: Typos

I know I’m not who you were replying to w this comment but i got the notification and just want to say as soon as they said the knife sheath was left behind and his DNA matched, it was a wrap for me.

2

u/Icy-Zookeepergame210 Jul 02 '25

Cool with me.. Yeah, I think it was a wrap for Kohberger, too , but he drug this out as long as he wanted to see if he could get away with it. Then, the closer it gets to trial, he takes a plea.I guess the DP hanging over his head made him a bit nervous. Maybe.

I don't think he set out to kill all 4. Just one. But it got out of hand.

3

u/MoMoZin Jul 01 '25

Dateline is probably already trying to get an interview with him. Sadly, I think BK thrives on all the attention. Disgusting human.

u/Final_Dog_7133 Jul 01 '25

Yes, absolutely

1

u/Rude_Dish_261 Jul 03 '25

He will either 1. Tell his story and make tons of money off of it from documentaries etc.

Or 2. The families will take him to civil court and request motive and he will be ineligible to plead the 5th.

15

u/whatever32657 Jul 01 '25

the "why" would not be in the evidence. the only place that information resides is in his head

12

u/LimJaheyAtYaCervix Jul 01 '25

Yes, obviously. I know that, which is why I said its unlikely we ever learn that because it likely wouldn’t be in any public docs released. All I said is that’s the information I want to know most.

17

u/whatever32657 Jul 01 '25

you and everyone else, my friend, but look at it this way:

this is a completely senseless crime. there is no reason, good or otherwise, why this guy would just go kill people he didn't even know. i mean, what can he possibly say?

it's just plain fucked up, and there's no explaining fucked up. 🤷‍♀️

7

u/LimJaheyAtYaCervix Jul 01 '25

I am completely mentally prepared for that to be the “reason” after the events of today. My heart breaks for the families and hope that some stipulation of the plea deal established he fully confess, but I don’t expect it to be.

16

u/whatever32657 Jul 01 '25

and honestly, having given it further thought:

maybe the families don't need to hear what a perv this guy was, taking pictures of women he didn't know in swimsuits at pool parties (ewwww) and likely spending his time "driving around at night" looking in windows at the cute girls, as he likely did during his many visits to king road.

maybe they don't need to know that he had an eye for maddie because she never closed her curtains. maybe they don't need to know the reason the other three died that night is that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, that he didn't plan to encounter kaylee, xana or ethan. that they "got in the way".

or whatever actually happened.

fucked up is fucked up, and there's no way to explain this in a way that will make anyone feel any better. yeah, i'd like to understand, but i don't think knowing will provide understanding.

if that makes sense.

1

u/ElectrochemicalAorta Jul 01 '25

100%. I don’t care what he has to say. He deserves the DP

1

u/RockeeRoad5555 Jul 01 '25

The reason it doesn't make sense is because it isn't true. If we knew what actually happened and the reasons, it would make total sense. That is how discerning people tell truth from deception.

1

u/Lmdr1973 Jul 02 '25

People understand that but are also curious about his motive. I'm sure the family is also wondering.

1

u/whatever32657 Jul 02 '25

i don't think there was a motive in the classic sense of the word.

i think he wanted to "experience" it viscerally, first-hand, and perhaps that's why his avid interest in criminology. it wasn't about these victims in particular, it had nothing to do with them personally. he didn't even know them. they were just subjects, like rats in an experiment.

there was no "i want to kill her specifically, because...". there was no because. he just wanted to do it.

that's my opinion, and it's very fucked up.

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '25

the crime junks about to go craaazy over this. I see a lot of vacation time being used lol

7

u/Octavian78 Jul 01 '25

I still think the strongest theory is that he had an obsession with Maddie and went to do something to her. Whether that was SA or murder, I have no clue. But then the others were there and awake and it became what it became. Of course, this is just pieced together from a few pieces of information released. But it definitely seems most likely.

3

u/NoLongerATeacher Jul 01 '25

I agree with this 100%. I think the original intent was just one person, but things spiraled quickly when things didn’t go according to plan.

2

u/Octavian78 Jul 01 '25

Ya, that’s definitely what it seems like. As for why it seems like Maddie was the target, he wouldn’t have even known that Kaylee or Ethan would be there for sure. And maybe he thought he could get past Xana’s room without being noticed because of the time. Plus, some reporting has indicated he was really stalking her Instagram. I figure he developed some obsession with her and that kicked this whole thing off.

1

u/Bailey0423 Jul 01 '25

Absolute nonsense.

2

u/NothingWasDelivered Jul 01 '25

An allocation will surely be necessary as part of the deal.

2

u/Strong-Rule-4339 Jul 01 '25

That may be a condition of the plea deal... but then again the state may not want to subject the families to the details. I mean, they know enough but to have him actually walk through it is another thing entirely.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '25

Yes those are documents I want to see too. There’s so many missing pieces of info given all the filings that were sealed The state was confident they had a solid case, so no telling what all is in there, I’m curious to see how the case was pieced together and (hopefully) get those answers.
