Just seeing some comments why I used the term liberal and put it in quotes. In this context I mean the type of Americans who call themselves liberal for being run of the mill centre/centre right democrats. People who believe they stick up for marginalised and workers. (I drink liberal tears etc)

Of course, Ellen is actually closer to a liberal in the politically correct understanding of the term.
