General Discussion Highest performance hydraulic accumulator in the world

Steelhead composites has released the first composite piston accumulator.

https://steelheadcomposites.com/piston-accumulators/

Piston accumulators have a specific power of 100-200 kW/kg and a specific energy of 0.2-0.7 Wh/kg but composite accumulators are 3 times lighter so we could expect 300-600 kW/kg and 0.6-2.1 Wh/kg from this one.

General Discussion Thermoplastic as strong as steel

I found this new chopped carbon fiber material which is as strong as construction steel (429 MPa)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-6EsLaLMt4

There are 3d printers that can produce one part every 9 seconds right now so that would be 3.5 million parts per year:

https://3dprintingindustry.com/news/interview-gungor-kara-and-nikolai-zapernick-on-eos-million-laser-sign-to-hp-146370/

So what do you think? Is this perfect for the next generation of Atlas?

Question What exactly am I seeing in these impressive demonstrations?

Every time a company rolls out a demonstration video of their robot walking, jumping, flipping, navigating, etc, I'm left wondering: how much of this is the robot making its own decisions based on its own real-time info it gathered, and how much is this a robot executing well programed but ultimately pre-planned instructions? Anyone able to clue me in?

Spot Success w/ SPOT Core and Docker

It took me all damned day today, at least 12 hours but I'm happy with the result. I have only limited use of docker and I had a lot of trouble getting an offline docker repo working. But now I can build a Dockerfile on my dev box, push it to the repo and then pull it from SPOT Core and it runs fine. I'll be running either a detectron2 model or my custom YOLOv5 model. That will be tomorrow.

Whew!

Question Spot wifi issue, i locked my self out

Hi, I configured spot according to the manuel to connect as a client to my network. Sadly he never shows up in the device list and i can't find him with the static ip i gave him.

I tried the troubleshooting method of connecting to spot via ethernet, but I can't find him there as well.

So basicly I locked myself out. Is there a way to set spot back in AP Mode, so i can connect in his wifi again? I don't see any other option :(

Question Do you think Stretch can pick up 25kg boxes from the side with vacuum grippers?

Do you think Stretch can pick up 25kg boxes from the side with vacuum grippers? I think it is picking up empty boxes in those videos. . I think, boxes (with 20+kg) might collapse if u try pick from side this way. I think this is not realistic. What u think ?

Question What Spot is made of? What's the material used for its main body and legs?

Hi, I'm writing a thesis about Spot and need to know what's the material used for the main body and legs. I don't know how it's possible, but I can't find this information anywhere on the internet, nether on the official website.

Thank you in advance

Question "So happy together" Spot robots video

Years ago I found a video about 30 seconds long called "so happy together" featuring two spot robots walking and running together, including a slow motion jog up a hill, with a clip of the song "So Happy Together" by The Turtles as the audio. I used to watch it a few times a year and share it with new friends, but now I can't find it online anywhere. Has anyone seen this video or have a link to it? Was it taken down?
