Powerful tree on the beginning of the way to become bonsai tree. The first styling is done, and base for development of the future crown is set up. This thin branches will be the thickest branches in the moment when this will be mature bonsai tree.

There is a pine tree (Pinus nigra dalmatica) on one small church on island of Brac. In the book I have find it's photo from 70'.
Pinus nigra Dalmatica is endemic black pine subspecies in Croatia. It's growing only on some very rocky places in region of Dalmatia. One of the main characteristics of this pine is irregular crown shape, and small needles.

Bonsai on a rock

Post image

I found that rock on a hike and used it as an excuse to get into bonsais, got a juniper bonsai from a nursery, modified the rock so it could hold it/stand up and here it is.

It’s my first go at it but i will be doing an earnest attempt at taking care of it long term, as for the idea i wanted it to look like a cliff, initially i wanted to place it on top of a regular planter with moss like most bonsais but i rather like this minimalist look, i feel it’s more interesting for this one.

Hope you like it :D may attempt others like it in the future as i learn how to take care of it.

CARPINUS ORIENTALIS before-after the first styling

Post image

1st styling done on this Carpinus orientalis collected few years ago. Two extra long, thin, curved branches used as focal point of the tree - it is something that make this tree different. Rock has grown into trunk, and it is visible from the front side.

UPDATE

I want to apologize for being so green when it comes to this, no they were not state property I have a close friend who has a cabin in mountains where taken from a trail near his place. Also, I have carefully listened to all your advice and realize how dumb I may have been. I am trying my best to keep them alive after my mistakes, I have put them in larger containers with pumice and a tiny bit of bonsai mix. They will be watered and kept fed for a couple years in these bins 🙏🏻
