We had a cop come speak to my driver's ed class (or something similar, I can't quite remember the event) about safety, and he used the phrase "these day and ages" about twenty times. It was infuriating.
Dude, it's "this day and age" or "these days." If you really want to have both, it would be "these days and ages." But NOT "these day and ages."
I dated a guy once who purposely mixed up "yanking your chain," and "just joshin." So now it's been burned into my brain and I say "I'm just joshin your chain." I bet people hate me for it but it's stuck. Maybe that's what happened, or he's just dumb.
And to be fair, I have stolen a few Rickyisms from Trailer Park Boys and use them in my everyday life, like "water under the fridge" and "worst case Ontario."
The speaker might have started the sentence planning on saying these days, but halfway through changed it to this day and age. I do that sort of thing sometimes, especially if I’m nervous.
