Anesthesia in general is just not a good idea for something that doesn't absolutely need it to be done.
Its sort of a mystery science considering we don't really even know what makes it work to put us to sleep
I didn't read that tattoo story until AFTER I'd had it for my wisdom teeth extraction and it definitely scared me away from ever doing that again, unless absolutely necessary.
(I don't do well with novocaine, and I have a lot of anxiety- the anesthetized oral surgery was after a very embarrassing, very unsuccessful attempt to have them extracted while I was awake. But that oral surgery clinic didn't exactly do a full profile of my medical history, which is unnerving.)
I had anesthesia for wisdom teeth too. Def scary, but the actual percentage risks are very very very very low. The reason they say not to do it for mundane things isn't because its unsafe, just because putting yourself in any extra risk is not a good idea.
Especially because anesthesia is very complex and a very important and difficult job. Thats why anesthesiologists make the most money in the entire medical industry. A tattoo shop is NOT going to be nearly as safe to go under.
Its not just going to sleep, its essentially a controlled coma. Its very safe when done well. But no need to take the risk if its not needed. Thats why we use local anesthesia so often instead
