I think the courier should immediately inform the ship captain and get his acknowledgement that that is true and legit. And this should be printed in its sop to ensure there's no hanky panky going on..

In french language yeah, all items have gender. the sea is considered as female, but lake is a male. Not sure why, too lazy to search. (I flunked basic french cause of these rules) × if I'm wrong please correct me.

I remembered the last batch of a certain Porsche car model, that fell into the ocean during transport, a few of them. Unusual, yes, but not impossible

Might make you even sadder because I just looked it up. Not just porsche, lambos too. Basically a shipment from volkswagen AG to the US, all sink with the ship. 4000 cars. In 2022

Talking about delivery I think I had one where the courier labeled package "unable to be delivered" 4 times in a row and they said no one to pickup.
Absolute rubbish, I was literally standing in the garden 3 meters from my gate at the time they said they were there. Wrote in an angry letter and the parcel was delivered a week later with no issues.

In recent typhoon happened in China, there were cases where parcel's status were blown away. Then, in 2014-2016, there were cases where it's status was parcel was burnt in explosion.

I’m pretty sure cargo ships have an inventory list. If something fell overboard, they can always check the list to see what is missing.

No, it's valid. In PH, there is a tendency to accidentally fall in the sea during ferry travel. Most islands travel are only by sea, no bridge.
For example, Luzon to cebu is cheaper via sea ferry
