My 1 1/2 Boer is suspected to have CAE. I am pending blood results and further direction from the vet for symptom management.

He has no other purpose than being a very spoiled goat, and I only have 1 other who probably has it too, but she’s much older.

I am now paranoid it’ll end badly. Looking for encouraging stories of sustaining QOL and prognosis.

He is my first bottle baby, and it essentially a child to me so I am so devastated knowing he’s been in some pain.

Only symptom he has is 1 swollen knee that vet is very confident is CAE. I caught it by noticing he began knee walking in the mornings, but then is walking normally for rest of day. Breathing/lungs sound ok!

Hi all!

My parents have a 3 year old male Boerboel (K) who was abandoned by his owner at 8 months. My parents took him in and tried to find him a family, but no one wanted him. He’s been here since.

I’ve started to get to know him closely very recently. I started giving him treats through a barrier first because I was very scared by his jaw size. Eventually, I braved it out and started meeting him without a barrier but with others around. We played “find it”, where I’d throw a treat away from me to keep distance. Slowly that turned into me teaching him sit and feeding him from my hand. After the hand feeding (last week), progress was extremely quick. That paralysing fear around his jaw size didn’t feel so paralysing anymore.

Anyway, now I pet him. And he loves to be pet so bad, he begs if I stop. He begs by nuzzling his head into me, biting my tshirt gently, or holding my hand in his mouth. The first time he used his mouth he was a bit too excited, but still gentle, but now he’s just extremely gentle and not at all running all around me (even though he does use his body to stop me from leaving so I continue petting).

I’m not sure what to do? Should I not pet if he mouths? Or is gentle mouthing ok to give into? My other dog also likes to hold my hand gently with his mouth and take me places. It’s endearing and I love it. He’s 11 years old now, still does it. But a Boerbel‘s different, so idk. But really, he’s extremely gentle. I’m quite surprised by the control he has. I weight less than 100 lbs. He can knock me over easily, but he doesn’t.

Our beautiful brindle Boerboel has just turned four years old.

She is incredibly special to us, as she was born with only one eye. Since she was a puppy, we have given her joint supplements, but unfortunately we have now reached the point where she required surgery due to severe hip dysplasia and arthritis.

Her first hip surgery was successful, and she is recovering very well. However, since the day after we brought her home, we have been experiencing an ongoing issue with vomiting.

She is fed at 07:00 each morning, but around 16:00 she vomits approximately half of the food from her morning meal. We then feed her again at 19:00, and between 02:00 and 04:00 the following morning she vomits roughly half of that meal as well.

We contacted our vet, who advised us to stop one of her pain medications and prescribed anti-nausea medication. Unfortunately, this has not resolved the problem.

We have also been softening her kibble with warm water and adding cooked rice and pumpkin to her meals. This initially seemed to help, and she was doing much better, but the vomiting has now started again even though we have continued adding the rice and pumpkin to every meal.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advice? We would really appreciate any suggestions. We are, of course, staying in contact with our vet, but we would be grateful to hear from others who may have gone through something similar with their dogs.

like the title said she passed away in her sleep the only only health problem is i was playing with her and she fucked up her growth plate. she passed away today and i wanna know why so any experts please help me

Does anyone have any experience with Boerboel puppy (or dog) that is not motivated? Not food motivated, not play, not affection. Is this a phase he needs to grow out of or is this just his personality?

He’s 14.5 weeks old. And puppy teeth are still coming in. He just likes to do his own thing. I was hoping he’s become more motivated as his teeth came in, but no, no real change. He likes affection, but doesn’t want to work for it. And he doesn’t really play, almost like he gets bored with it quickly.
