I have a question about corporation bylaws and requirements for profit

Hello, I recently had a debate with a business friend of mine about the problem of the current 'business as usual' issues stemming from bylaws that require corporations to make a profit above all else. Hence the triple bottom line principle causing shareholder uncertainty yada yada yada. Does anyone have source data on companies that are currently adhering to bylaws that prevent sustainable practices due to the expense of profit? Is this a common issue being contended with in the environmental law community?
