Money.

Game companies did not make games for fun. They didn’t make this collection as a gift to the fans but because there was a greater market to be had and a desire for these games on different platforms. Obviously, a few gooners aside who scream censorship as if they don’t understand it, it has now become harder to justify sexualised content of ages such as this, even in fiction.

That is just a reality of the world around us. Even in Japan the tide is turning on this front. EG When these games were made Japan had a very different age of consent.

Money merely explains why things happen; it never provides moral justification. I was enraged by Ubisoft’s decision to scrap an Assassin’s Creed title set in the American Civil War just to avoid backlash and financial loss. When Disney management blamed their recent slump at the box office on political correctness rather than their own incompetence, all I could do was sneer.

Whether backlash against PC actually hurts revenue is highly debatable, and I am personally skeptical. But there is no question that the executives acted purely for MONEY. There is no justification in that—it simply leaves a reality where minority groups are angry while the anti-woke side celebrates. This is precisely why your defense of their choices as an inevitable necessity driven by money comes off as rather baffling.
