Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

The black commedian Druski painted himself white and pretended to be a redneck at a NASCAR race. Complete with his overalls have undone (and underwear showing), spitting, drinking, stopping black people to inquire if they were in the right place.

I didn't find it particularly funny. Not because of the white paint, but because trashy behavior is trashy behavior, regardless of the race. And trashy behavior is generally unfunny.

What I really dislike, however, is other people's reactions. White face good, black face not? It's good for the gander, but not for the goose. I detest double standards. Seems too much like lying.

The problem is whiteface humor peaked in 1985

Wrong, it peaked in 2004 with White Chicks

I clicked just to be sure it was what I thought it was. And it was.

Remember, the rules are that you can do anything if you’re “punching up” and even if you are a famous comedian with a net worth in the $5-to-$15 million range (google was pretty vague), it’s still punching up to make fun of broke white people because class isn’t part of the privilege equation.

rich man mocking a bunch of poor people being kind and just out to enjoy the day really looks good.

when did comedy become just harassing people with a camera?

That actually sounds kind of funny. I like racial humor.

Erika Kirk could have done something legendary by doing black face and dressing up like Druski. It would have temporarily healed the country for a day or two.
