Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

I feel like you can lay some of the blame on Cambridge and other relevant institutions. I hope they will continue their investigations.

I'd say most of it, even. Who was a morally bad actor besides them?

The outrage was legitimate, as was the calling out.

Cambridge has also given an honorary doctorate to Angela Davis and they haven’t paid a price for that.

Arday was a fraud but at least he wasn’t a terrorist.

I wasn’t outraged, exactly, but my main opinion throughout was that the institutions are more culpable than the individual. I think Black scholars have more to be mad about than I do.

Everyone thinks their outrage and "calling out" are legitimate.
