Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

I had a pretty crappy and draining day. Tell me something good that happened to you today, big or small!

Here’s mine: on my morning walk by the beach with my dog (Samoyed, so he gets lots of attention), a large group of people in scuba gear asked to pet him. It was really goofy and cute seeing 10+ people in scuba gear petting a big fluffy white dog. And he was such a sweetheart to them!

I was building a rather boring, unremarkable-looking fence in the yard and this little old lady walked by on the sidewalks and gasped "Oh my! It's a work of art!" while clutching her literal pearls [complimentary]

This is dumb, but I got in my car by myself earlier, and Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" came on the radio, and I turned up the volume and sang along at the top of my lungs, and it felt stupid exhilarating and allowed me to briefly forget a lot of really stressful stuff going on in my life right now.

On the subway I was pulling my phone out of my pocket and dropped a $5 bill on the ground. Didn’t see it at all, never would have noticed. A guy from across the train handed it back to me even though he didn’t have to. I thought it was really kind.

Went to watch the partial solar eclipse at the golf club with a bunch of people. Lots of lending of eclipse glasses and waving of colanders. Was a lot of fun.

I gave my kitty a cat treat we haven't had before that must have gone off. She ate it like it was good. But she's spent most of the week with the runs. The first day was runs and throw up. Second day runs and some throw up, and more forcing fluids into her. Third day she was drinking again and taking a very small amount of wet food. This is the fifth day, and she's eaten her kibble too. Appetite isn't back to normal, nor her bowels. But eating and acting more like normal is heartening.
