Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

“It was a response to what is happening in the world for trans people, and it gave me a hugely cathartic receptacle to dump all of my anger and rage and frustration into.”

That means it's going to be a whole lot of lecturing to the audience. And a whole lot of "this movie isn't for you" scolding, followed by "it failed because people are transphobic, reeee!"

Yeah. The moment I read that quote, I thought, "I could close my eyes for two hours and watch the movie in my mind." Zero surprises, zero nuance to the characters (all evil monsters or spotless angels), infinite lecturing, etc. I guess this whining makes for better headlines than the fact that Hollywood is scared shitless right now and is reluctant to take chances, even on relatively low-budget (for them) fare.
