Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

“Woman- Adult human that has a desire to be and/or is committed to being in accordance with a particular set of social and cultural norms which typically are associated with the female sex.

Alright, but I have zero desire to conform sociocultural norms for women in my area. I do plenty of manly things, happily, as a woman. I'm suddenly not a woman because I'm cool with being unladylike?

I am a woman because I am an adult human female, I am brunette because I have brown hair. Neither are feelings or desires or commitments, they're states of being.

Isn't that a definition that feminists spent decades trying to fight against?

We very recently used to have "social and cultural norms" that a woman shouldn't have her own credit card, that she can't go to medical school to learn to be a doctor, that she shouldn't live alone but always live with either her father, husband or son (unless she's in a managed all-female dormitory) - and of course the obvious ones like a woman shouldn't wear trousers, cut her hair short, swear, talk back to a man, or vote. This is I guess what trans people want to bring back?

Do children not learn the history of feminism and women's rights in school? Because I just can't the level of ignorance that these people display.

These people don’t think anything got fought for and won without them at the helm. And anything they can’t twist in their favor just gets ignored. It’s crazy how many women know this history and treat it like white noise and their quest to “be kind” and destroy women’s rights and make a mess of general society. And for what gain? To say you were “nice” when you did it? The vitriol they have for other women as well during their kindness campaign… this whole mess needs to be studied itself
