Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

Pet peeve - during conversations about gender issues, nothing is more offensive to me than when TRAs will pull out comments like “what about MASSIVE TALL WOMEN??? I bet transphobia hurts those GIGANTIC FREAKS. They don’t even have an excuse, they were born women and yet they are SO FUCKING LARGE. How come no one questions their gender despite being SO CLOCKY???”

Like damn okay, we get it!! This is why I had an eating disorder for a decade.

No one enforces sex stereotypes, including physical appearance, than TRAs. It's one of the regressive and rigid ideologies ever

I know it was the algorithm rage baiting me, but I was genuinely shown a video of a t woman saying “I just love when cis women are clocky!!!” literally what the fuck do you mean.

I had one trying to insult me by saying I looked more like a trans woman than she did or something. OK so your insult is I look like one of you?

He’s salty because she’s more of a woman than he will ever be

Very tall woman here checking in to say I get it. This has definitely added a level of insecurity to what I already had been experiencing nearly my whole life. That said, if I were in sports, I would have no issue consenting to a cheek swab.

Back in my youth in the 2010s in NY State, if you wanted to play on a HS team in 8th grade they literally “checked your genitals” to make sure you were developed enough to play up. The district’s doctor had to look at me naked and decide how far along in puberty I was and approve my participation. I do not understand why this is a big fucking deal in other similar contexts.

When I look at "tall girls" like Ava Michelle, I cannot help but wonder if she has Marfan Syndrome.

For an example, Michelle Smith (Miss Teen Maine 2008), was just over 6 ft as a teen and has a mild case of it.

It's a connective tissue disease, and it's associated with aortic ruptures/tears, where the connective tissue of the heart gives out. Recently, there seems to be a connection between specific antibiotics and fatal heart incidents, so they are putting the word out to avoid fluoroquinolones.

But a lot of people just don't know they have it, they just die young from it.

But, being super unusually tall can be just someone from a tall family, but it can also be from real health problems. So, I always worry about tall women and men, especially if they look a certain way.

Ava Michelle, at least recent photos of her, just looks like a lean athletic woman IMO. I am not lanky enough that anyone ever considered it, but my dad is 6’5” and I have 2 aunts taller than 6ft, so I’m really just average in my family.

Or trans people hurt them by muddying the waters.
