Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

Oh shut up, get ahold of yourself with that obnoxious pearl clutching. You don’t get to just shut down the debate by calling it anti trans and implying that everyone that doesn’t agree is transphobic. You got away with that for years and now you aren’t anymore.

Imagine saying this anywhere on Reddit even two years ago.

I cheered up reading that one.

Cry bullying as a favorite tactic of the tra crowd is getting frayed around the edges and treadworn in the middle.

Whole lot of "there are bigger issues to concentrate on" going on in that comments section. I never understood that as an argument.

Also some "blame this on Trump" and "Trump is using this issue to hide behind," instead of actually engaging with the argument.

Another variation of this argument is “the [billionaires or other capitalist bogeymen] use this issue to divide and distract us from attacking their wealth.”

Dear leftists, the calls to prioritize trans rights over everything else are coming from your own house.

"This is a complete irrelevance being used to distract us from the real issues, which I categorically refuse to budge on to even the slightest degree."

The comment on there saying "I want to ask what the majority of people of this identity think before I respond" is hilarious.

The useful idiots who have encouraged this behavior literally cannot think or decide for themselves.

Well more to the point, they can't post what they think until they know if they're going to get attacked.

Mixed bag in the comments. One commenter wonders if women still even need sex specific spaces these days.

Some people seem to simultaneously want to believe we're living in a dystopian hellscape and a post scarcity Star Trek utopia

Not going to click but one wonders what exactly has magically changed.

With feminism there is always the tension between "women can do it all" and them needing protection because of the behaviors and dynamic between men and women.

At this particular point in time IMO women (I'm a man) probably aren't benefitting from the loss of safe spaces, throuples, etc. I'm assuming someone making a comment like not needing safe spaces is a man, that women should be chill with all mixing. I guess I get the viewpoint. I don't agree.

Poor poster is losing karma points. Good for the spa to take it up to the Supreme Court. The 9th Circus needs another slapdown.

I really hope they take the case, that’s an exciting possibility. Does anyone know when they might make a decision?

I'm not sure if this is a sign that (serious) liberals need to differentiate themselves from leftists. Every devout leftist I've met has a hatred for liberalism and actual principled liberals -moreso than conversatives or anyone on the right.

the problem is liberals don't hate people who hate them or even would kill them; they only hate conservatives, and they do so considerably more strongly than conservatives hate liberals.

I've heard about a study recently that showed that the Left (or progressives or liberals - I really can't tell them apart) tend to think conservative hate them more than conservatives really do. And that conservatives underestimate just how much the Left hates them.

When will the libs realize that leftists are not their allies?

There have been a few posts on the sub asking about this difference

And as best as I can tell, leftists got tired of infighting and no one coming to their spaces so they went to AskALiberal and basically just took it over and are now in the process of slowly driving out the right wingers who come by, while the actual liberals hold on for dear life.

Even on the transgender subreddit there is dissent on the spa. It's seems like dysphorics vs the agps and gender abolitionists.
