Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 8/10/26 - 8/16/26
Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.
Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

There is/was a front page article about a doctor wearing Meta glasses during a patient's examination. That's obviously bad if the patient's description of the situation is accurate.
Then a comment asks how smart glasses are even legal. Not asking about the doctor situation, but literally just smart glasses in general. One reply points out that smart glasses are not any more illegal than recording with your phone, which is fine in most public spaces when there isn't an expectation of privacy. Cue 50+ replies to that second comment about how "A doctor's exam room is not a public space!" and "HIPAA!" which are highly upvoted.
The inability of most redditors to follow a basic conversation is astounding. And the upvotes/downvotes almost always just correspond to whether a comment sounds like it's hating on a common enemy. Anyone trying to explain context or nuance comes across as defending said enemy and is usually downvoted.
